We're doing these too and from what I understand, you put little trinkets that go with your theme or your location where your having the wedding, maybe a itinerary of the wedding, bottled water for the room, ect.
So far We're thinking of putting:
Wedding Itinerary, LIRR schedule (so that people can go into the city if they want), some of my favorite LI snacks, bottled water,
I want to do a few more things but I also want to keep it affordable.

We're doing bottled water, snacks (chips, cookies and mints), a schedule of wedding events, emergency phone numbers, small packets of medicine (Advil/Tylenol), and a letter from us thanking the guests for attending.

I am doing these baskets too. I have two questions. What type of container are you using? Are you actually using a basket or are you doing a box or gift bag? The other question is What food is Long Island famous for that we can put in these baskets?

Re: OOT welcome gifts
I'm using a tote bag for the gifts...the problem with a box or basket is that people staying at hotels are most likely traveling and will not have anywhere to pack the basket/box. A tote bag can just be crumbled up and shoved in a suitcase.
As to long island food, I have no idea...but I'm curious too. Anyone know?

Re: OOT welcome gifts
Another bride posted that she was putting in North Fork potato chips??? That was the closest thing to being what LI is known for that I have seen (??). As far as bags/boxes I am doing a seashell theme and I'm using sand pails from the dollar store but they have great bags and boxes (inc. gable boxes) at:
LI Visitors Guide LIRR train schedule Port Jeff Village Map Directions to Church and back to the RH North Fork Potato chips Granola bar Package of 2 soft bake cookies Small baggie of Christmas chocolates Bottle of water
We tied off the bags with a little round tag that had a welcoming greeting on it, and each bag had our monogram on a clear label stuck to the front of the bag.

Re: OOT welcome gifts
Newsday makes a long island travel guide called 'this month on long island.' I have a family friend who works for newsday and is giving me them for free...I have no idea if theyre for sale, but I do know that you can find them in the entrance of some hotels

We got it from the LI Visitor and Convention Bureau:

I'm going to use a gift bag for the OOT bags. Also, among other things, I'm going to put a bag of North Fork chips in each bag (which are made on Long Island)

There are webforms on there, but I think I called and asked for them to be sent.
