Im getting married on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend out east. All of the hotels out there are $229+ because its memorial day weekend and i guess its a huge weekend for all of the wineries and vineyards. My FMIL said that we are asking way too much of our guests for this amount of money. I dont know what to do bc this is the cheapest we found. I asked some of my coworkers what they thought and they said its not like im forcing anyone to stay there overnight, that we are giving them the option to.
Any feedback would be great!

Re: Opinion needed for hotel blocks
Do you have alot of out of town guests coming in? If it's mostly family, what about renting a vacation home? Not sure if they will let you rent for the weekend or if you need to rent the whole week. Worth taking a look at...
Good luck!

What if you did a hotel block a little further west and then got a shuttle bus for your guests? Just another idea.

This. Your coworkers are right in the sense that you aren't forcing people to stay, but if people need or want to stay, it's only fair to provide an affordable option IMO.

One of the Giorgio's girls is doing this... if you're willing to help the guests out with a shuttle bus, this is definitely a viable option.
Other then this.. there is not much you can do about the hotels being too expensive. You can block rooms close, and if a guest chooses to stay further away that's their choice.
My wedding is out east in May, not on a special day and my block is 189-229.

this.. although if its the cheapest then there's not much to do and people should understand its that price since its a holiday weekend.. either way i think you should have a shuttle for everyone since it is over $200.

I'm the one that's doing this and my block for my room is $139/night plus the cost of a coach bus to transport them to the RH which is about $900. There is one bus company that can do 3 roundtrips but it costs about $250 more. Happy to help you if you want.

That's a great idea! If the price is too high for some people then they may RSVP no to your wedding but if they really want to be there then hopefully the higher price won't be a problem and they can make it a mini vacation

Can I ask what shuttle company you are using? I got a quote from the Hampton Jitney of $2400 I am expecting prob 50-75 people that will need shuttle service though..

Re: Opinion needed for hotel blocks
I attended a wedding at The Vineyards this past September, and what turned me off from using the hotel block was the price ($189 before tqx). My friend used a shuttle bus company to transport some guests to and from the hotel, and then others to and from the LIRR stop in Baldwin and a stop each in Queens and Brooklyn. I can ask her how much she paid for the shuttle.
