opinion question - cake from hall?

opinion question - cake from hall?

So our hall is providing us the cake with a bakery that I've heard nothing but rave reviews about. My FH and I went and met with the baker and talked about a cake, and ordered a sample. When I went to pick it up at the time we agreed on last week it wasn't ready. They made me wait 25 minutes for it. The woman in front of me on line had had her cake given away! They told her they could make a new one if she waited 2 hours. When I got home I realized it wasn't the frosting that we had ordered. Not too big of a deal - more annoying than anything.

Called back the baker and asked if we could change a filling and get the right frosting this time. 2 days notice (I worked in a bakery, plenty of time!). My FH talked to the baker directly on the phone, and said we needed to pick it up by 10 am on Saturday morning. Baker tells FH for him to 'call and give him a heads up before we leave the house' so he knows when we need it. FH says we need it by 10 am and that's when we'll be there. In any case, Saturday morning comes and I wake up at 9:30 and call to say we'll be there at 10:15 for the cake. 'What cake?' I describe it to the girl, she says to hold on and comes back to say 'Umm, no way it'll be ready, how about 11:30?' I say we're going to a party and it can't be that late. She says maybe 11:15. FH and I change our plans a little and FH shows up at 11:15 to pick up the cake. Meanwhile, I had CALLED at 10:45 to say that we were leaving the house, was the cake ready? The girl says 'the chocolate ganache for Jennifer?' and I say yes. 'OK, I'm looking at it right here, you're al lset.' Great! FH goes over and waits on line for 25 minutes only to be told that the cake is NOT ready and never was ready. They make it on the spot apparently after FH re-giving them the order! We get it home, and take it upstate with us to our party, only to open it up that evening and discover it's the completely WRONG cake. Nothing about it was correct.

After this, I have zero faith in them to handle my wedding cake and get it right.

Since it was included in my hall's package to us, should I expect them to deduct X dollars from our bill since we won't be using their bakery? I have a great bakery that we deal with that I want to bring in.

Would anyone still use these people for the cake based on great recommendations?

Oy! I thought cake would be the easy part...

some halls will deduct it or exchange the amount for other extras...some will not. never hurts to ask!

I would have the hall deduct the cost of the cake and get it else where.
