Ok, so this was round 1 for looking at reception halls. Did it with my mom and figured I would take FH to go see the finalists. We saw CLM Larkfield Manor Harbor Club Hamlet WW (Hauppage) Thatched Cottage ' The two places that I absolutely LOVED are the Hamlet WW and Thatched Cottage. I still have some more places to see but think that these will be the finalists. Okay, so here are my questions about each one.
Hamlet WW- Totally my style and love that there is a hotel right across the way. The retractable wall thing seems confusing. I am looking at 175 and am concerned that the room is not big enough. I would rent the restaurant part out. Also, were did you ladies have the ceremony, in the ballroom or the cocktail area? The cocktail area seemed like it would be too small to hold all of my guest. Also, in terms of negotiating, are they flexible with the price pp?
Thatched Cottage- I thought it was so beautiful and loved the water views. I got a pretty good price but am concerned by some of the reviews I read about the food and potential smell from the harbor?? Also, if there is another affair going on has there been a problem with seeing people from that affair?
Thanks for all your thoughts.

Re: Opinions needed on some halls.....
FH and I only looked at CLM and we loved it right away that we booked it on the spot. So i am kinda biased. We had gone for a food tasting, and FH is an aspiring chef, so i knew he'd be hard on the food. But he loved it.

My MOH just got married at the Hamlet in Hauppauge...it was stunning and the food was really good. They have such a nice set up there and the decor is really elegant.

Re: Opinions needed on some halls.....
my best friend got married at the hamlet and i can tell you it was great. the food was amazing! i had the filet and i loved it and i dont really like red meat unless it is done good. of course, since i dont eat meat ever, my stomach was rather full and didnt know what to do about digestion...lol...
the cocktail hour was nice as well. i was in the BP so i missed half of it, but i can say my friend opened up another room. she had like close to 175 guests. it wasnt squashed in the CH or the reception. the golf course also is a great place to take pics.
sorry i cant be more clear, my wedding is in 4 days and i dont remember the logistics of the place.

Re: Opinions needed on some halls.....
My sister got married at The Thatched Cottage in May '04. There were no problems whatsoever with any smell from the harbor. The only problem at her wedding was the noon firewhistle that went off during her ceremony. As for the food, I was busy with pictures during CH so I didn't eat anything. Dinner was nothing to write home about.
I was at another wedding at Thatched Cottage last year and dinner was 100% better than at my sister's wedding. FH & I got there late, so again, I can't comment on CH. No problems with a smell from the harbor then either.

I am getting married at the Old Field Club. It has alot of the same qualities as some of these other places but it is only one wedding at a time which was very important to me and the food is amazing. You should check it out too!
ETA: Oh yeah, I checked the farmers almanac or whatever to see the tide schedule before booking

We have recently been to the Thatched Cottage and the food was amazing. The service was excellent as well, and the outdoor area for CH was very clean & tended to.
