Opinions Needed , Shower Question

FH & I were discussing this, earlier today. At FSIL's shower she felt that it was bad taste to open cards that contained money and announce the person gave her money, this caused a huge fight between her and FMIL because those people never got acknowledged. I understand both sides to the argument, and now I'm trying to figure out how to handle it at my shower.

I want to acknowledge people that gave money and not a physical present but I don't want to announce that so and so gave me a check. Anyone have any suggestions on another way it can be phrased?

You can open the envelopes ..... but no need to announce what is in there .... Just say Thank you so and so ....

hmm... good question! i honestly never thought of that. i think that you can still acknowledge them without saying how much. i might say something like 'this is for our house fund'

I agree! I've been to so many showers where the bride opens her envelope, reads the card and thanks so and so

OMG I would never say how much, I was hoping there was something else I could say other than just thank you, it feels incomplete I guess.

Yeah, I'd probably read the card... then say thank you so and so.
I def think they need to be acknowledged... but it would be tacky to announce they gave you money.

i agree read teh card or just open it and say thanks ______ ! and blow a kiss ... people get wierd about the most ridiculous things, dont even enetertain the subject!!!!!
