Opinions on having Bagpipers

Opinions on having Bagpipers

I would love to walk down the aisle to the Wedding Song from Braveheart (which for those who don't know, is all bagpipes)

I'm about 60% Irish, neither parents or grandparents are from Ireland...just decendents.

Would it be weird to have bagpipes either in or outside the church?

Looking for honest opinions...

I love Bagpipers and was going to do that same since my FH's family is Irish, but his Father passed away about 6-months ago and they had them at the funeral. Since then to me it's more of a somber thing then happy times for us.

To each it's own though and like I said, I was going to do it before this happened.

IMO they remind me of funerals

i had them for 15 minutes at my reception as a surprise for my husband. his family is from ireland and they loved it! i got the idea from my BF who had them at her wedding. people still comment on them, and it made his family so happy...we danced and sang along with them and got great pictures!

i like bagpipers outside the church but it might be a little much inside (also with the accoustics it might be very loud) since you normally have more than one bagpiper play at a time.

bagpipers are great and you should definitely do them at some point of your wedding day

I agree...been to 3 weddings with bagpipers and they were beautiful for the outdoor ceremony but for the other 2 indoor ceremonies...TOO overbearing...

Re: Opinions on having Bagpipers

I LOVE bagpipers at a wedding. I'm mostly Irish, but my family has been here since forever, so we're not 'Irish' if you know what I mean. So it would be a little weird for me to do it. But if you want to, go for it! I live right by the AOH hall and sometimes i hear them practicing and I always stop to listen.

But be careful who you get--nothing is worse than a bad piper. Sounds like a dying cow.

Last fall I drove past the Presbyterian church in Amagansett while there was a wedding going on inside, and they had a piper outside playing. I guess he played while they came in, and when they left, and did the incidental music while everything was getting ready. I'm sure it sounded lovely inside the church. You could think about that if you're having a church wedding. I do agree, I think having the piper inside would be too much.

Re: Opinions on having Bagpipers

I was just talking about Bagpipers with my FH. We were debating to have them at the church or at the reception. He's 1/2 Irish and I have no Irish in me. I feel it's important to have a little part from both families incorporated into the wedding.

Good Luck!!
