Thats why my mom is rethinking hers... because of how dressy it is...
i kind of agree with your mom if thats what FMIL is wearing.
i say go to macys/nordstrom/Lord and taylor - they have some really great dresses.
YEah, the more i compare the more it seems like my mom isnt the MOB but just another guest
Thank you girls

Re: Opinions on MOB dress please!
I think it all depends on the type of wedding you are having. IMO that is more of a destination or afternoon ourdoorsy wedding. It's not that fancy. If fancy is what she's looking for and the groom's side will be more dresses up... then I can totally see what she's saying. My mother is a young mother too... but there are plenty of dresses to chose from. She doesn't have to wear a dress that was made for a MOB... she can just go to Macy's or any store that carries fancy dresses or gowns and choose from that selection without it being a typical MOB dress. That's most likely what we are going to do.

this is one of FMILs choices
Yea when you put this gown next to the other dress... one looks more dressy than the other.
Since you mom obviously loves the first dress (enough to have bought it in the first place) then maybe she can wear that for the RD and then get a dressier dress for the wedding.

Re: Opinions on MOB dress please!
i think it's beautiful. my mom is doing something similar and she had a little bolero/type jacket made with a few rhinestone buttons at the cuffs (3/4 length sleeves) and is just decking out with jewelry that she has gotten from my dad and some pretty shoes and bag. but she has to do what makes her comfortable. but i don't think mom's HAVE to wear those long, sparkly dresses. its' all about what they feel beautiful in. maybe she just wants more glitz?

I think I am going to agree with you mother it looks more destination wedding kind of dress. David Bridal has some nice MOB gowns that are light in material since you are having a july wedding
I agree, it is a beautiful dress but for the MOB she may want more pizzazz.

Re: Opinions on MOB dress please!
i went throught the same thing with my mom, my fmil got a dress like your fmil at nordstroms and my mom thought it was super fancy my moms was similar to your moms just longer, she ended up going and getting another dress because she felt her original dresss was to casual! so she got something with beading, and she feels more comfortable and thats whats important its a big day for her!! hth

Re: Opinions on MOB dress please!
I think it depends on the tone of your wedding. If it is a formal affair I think she should wear something at least floor length. She could wear lighter fabrics like chiffon or georgette that are more flowy to ensure comfort. My mom actually compained about all the MOB dresses being so poofy and over the top...but she's getting one anyways.
As other girls mentioned, I think the MOB should be a notch above everyone else.

Re: Opinions on MOB dress please!
FYI that dress is VERY low cut and almost imposible to wear a bra with.

Re: Opinions on MOB dress please!
It is a very pretty dress but I think it is too casual for the MOB. If she does not like the MOB dresses have her look at the BM dresses there is no rule that says she must wear a MOB dress.Have you mom look at Jade by Jasmine, Jovani, montage by Mon Cheri and Alyce- They have some MOB lines that are not 'old' looking.

Re: Opinions on MOB dress please!
JMO but anything tea-length and shorter is more casual to me. It would be good for your shower or rehearsal dinner though. When I think formal, I think floor length. But if you are going the casual route, then it's good.

Re: Opinions on MOB dress please!
I think it's a cute dress, but not MOB appropriate, more regular guest appropriate.

Re: Opinions on MOB dress please!
It depends on the overall feel of your wedding. If it's casual/beachy, then it's fine. But if it's a semi-formal to formal wedding and your gown is bejeweled and/or full, it might not be formal enough. What are your BMs wearing? I think MOB should be at least as dressy as the BMs.

I think it's fine, but if she's not comfortable, maybe she could get an evening gown for the reception and wear the original dress for the ceremony. I'm assuming that the original dress has already been ordered and can't be cancelled.
