Opinions PLEASE!

-Was posted in 2013 brides in error originally- SORRY!

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED THOUGH!

THANKS!

Hello Ladies!

I'm going out of my mind and was hoping for some input on food quality.

-FH and I visited Fox Hollow and I LOVED the WG room(65$ per/person for a Sunday in March javascript:FEmote(''); ), but also felt it was a bit small. WE have a anticipated list of 180 people! And though I'm willing to cut it down to 160 to fit the room, the room for cocktails was even smaller. I had no clue where all the guests will sit! Even if it was outdoors. Do they allow us to use both outdoor and indoors?

Also we had dinner there and was not as impressed with the food as we thought we would. Are there any Fox Hollow brides old and new that had a tasting experience that left you thinking the food was just a tad bit overcooked? We tried a Seafood risotto dish- which included lobster, scallops, and shrimp- all of which took more effort than necessary to chew. We also tried the duck al' orange which was a little dry as well but the grand mariner based sauce was phenomenal.

I loved the room, I loved Pierre (our waiter), and Ken our BM is beyond accommodating but again I'd love more opinions just so I don't feel like there might be a possibility that we would regret it later.

Also, has anyone had their tasting at Fox Hollow yet? Is everything ridiculously tasty and moist and juicy? There are so many family and friends who are foodies. I don't want to be the bride with not good at all tasting food.

-We also love the Inn at New Hyde Park for that turn of the century architecture. We haven't tried the food yet-hoping to make an appointment for tomorrow night to see the property and taste the food.
Does any one have information on their pricing? I heard their are quite the budget breaker (i.e. 300+$/person)

-We love the food at Russo's but the space is not really our style. Is the Riviera and El Caribe's food comparable? How is the pricing (does anyone have info on that?)

At this point, FH and I are open to Mid-March to the first week of June 2013. We're hoping to secure a Saturday night, but are willing to do a Sunday 'twilight' event (4-9:30pm or 4:30-10pm).

Things seem to be booking up fast and I would love to commit to a place but don't want to commit without more info.

Any info would be lovely.

Thanks so much in advance.

Re: Opinions PLEASE!

The WG room will NOT fit 180! The max they gave us was 156 - and I remember it well, because even though our wedding will only (hopefully!) be about 100 people, my dad & FH kept trying to get Jen to explain how 150 people would fit at tables.

I think the Somerley Room is the best for the size wedding you want - did you see it when you went? I'm surprised they would've only shown WG!

Are you using the restaurant as a cocktail room? That's the only one they showed us since we're doing a Saturday wedding, and yeah, 160 would be tight up there

I'm pretty positive Fox Hollow doesn't have an outdoor cocktail hour because that was never conveyed, and I've never seen anything about it on these boards. Could be totally wrong though!

Fox Hollow doesn't do tastings, so I can't offer any feedback about the food. Hopefully someone else from the fox can allay your fears though because it has an amazing rep for food - one of the girls on the 2013 board's uncle is the chef there, and having her wedding there, so I trust she knows

I'm a huge huge huge foodie, and what attracted me most about Fox Hollow is the menu! I love being able to offer guests 7 options the night of, after an extensive CH with 10 stations and 9+ passed appetizers.

For the Riviera, they quoted us about 10 bucks less for our wedding than Fox Hollow (72 in October from Riviera) but NO amount of money was going to make up for the (imo) teeny inside space. I loved the view of the water and the dark wood, but it's essentially one long connected room, a dance floor that turns into the ceremony space if the outside can't be used, and there was no wow factor for me there. But the price might be right, and they definitely have a nice outdoor cocktail option. Idk what they do for cocktails if it's inclement weather.

Re: Opinions PLEASE!

If you are looking for excellent food at a more reasonable price I would suggest Venetian Yacht Club.

I am getting married at their other location Crestwood Manor, the food is excellent but CWM only holds 100 -120.

I believe VYC is bigger.

Good Luck

Re: Opinions PLEASE!

I agree w/ teacherteacher, that amount of people will NOT fit in the WG room!!

I can't believe they even showed it to you! When first called and told them the amount of guests, I was told that the WG room would be perfect. Which worked out for me because its just my style - love it!! I was also told that it fits up to 150 as well, but 120 is comfortable. 120 is also to prevent tables from being down the center aisle (which would block passage to the bride and groom and be cramped).

Our cocktail hour room is right next door to the WG. I think its called the briar fox.

Are you getting married on a Sunday? I kind of wanted to see the other rooms, but since FH & I want a small guest list on a Saturday, the rooms basically were chosen for us. I've heard really nice things about Briar Fox and don't think I've seen a pic yet!

I agree with everyone else ..150 is the max for that room.we were looking at a 100 give or take a few and that room's perfect for that..And there is a option for the outside cocktail hour you just have to ask about it...we were never told at first but if you ask they can accommodate. the inside cocktail is in the briar fox room..it's right near the wgp it's more of a hunting lodge feeling...
you definitely need to be in the larger room...speak with Jenn there..she's very good ...

We had our wedding at Russo's and the food was AMAZING...BEYOND AMAZING! If you're talking about the Riviera in brooklyn, I would say that the food is definitely comprable to Russo's. My friend had her wedding there 5 years ago and before she booked the Riviera, she was torn between there and Russo's. She chose Riviera because it was close to Staten Island (where her ceremony was) and I chose Russo's, which she was excited about bc then she could experience a Russo's wedding to! Not sure on the pricing of the Riviera though...but I can tell you ALLLLLL about Russo's!!

Good luck!

El Caribe's food is OUTSTANDING! You cannot beat the quality and quantity...PERFECT!

The Riviera (Brooklyn) and Dyker Beach Club (Brooklyn) also have excellent food.

The food selection definitely is amazing. They did tell us that the day of the wedding they would make a decision as to whether or not they would have the cocktail outside in the garden or inside. I would ask. Especially if the whether will be temperate then. It doesn't hurt.

Thanks again for the info! It helps a lot!

We actually went to a wedding there recently. The grounds are beautiful but we def want a more private wedding approach. Like 1 bride at a time only.

Thanks so much for the offer! We loved the food at Russo's. The duck was still so juicy after being out for a while. I would love to mash the food at russo's to anywhere I end up at. Unfortunately, I wont be able to use them since they didn't have the date we were hoping for.

The WG room is gorgeous! Industrial/Garden-ish/Romantic with a waterfall and fireplace. What is there not to love? LOL Yeah I still couldn't wrap my mind around it which made me worried. I didn't want my guests feeling cramped. Kind of wished we had a smaller guest list size. LOL. Then I wouldn't second guess it :)

Yes, it was for a Sunday

The quote I had initially posted is for a twilight event 4-9:30 PM on a Sunday. Which was ideal, since we're not late eaters at all and there is a lot of older family members coming.

I had one son get married at the Riviera (Brooklyn) and the other at Russo's and yes the food is comparable, in fact, some people like the Riviera better. You can't go wrong with either venue as they are both beautiful with excellent service and food.
Good luck.

I looked here & thought it looked small, but the woman kept insisting it would fit our (possibly) 150 person wedding. Did they tell you 100-120?
