Optimum online help

My DH unplugged my Optimum connection and plugged it into his computer b/c his co needed to send him info. So then he plugs it back into my computer its not working.

He says he called Cable and they show it working ok.

What should I do. Do I have to reinstall it?

Help!!

Power down cable modem. Then power down PC. Then power up cable modem. Then power up PC.

it usually takes some time to get a signal..just leave it on for a little with the computer on or off it usually doesn't matter.

You also might need to refresh your IP address.

If you have Windows and you are comfortable typing a little command line, try this:

-Click 'Start'
-Select 'Run'

Type 'cmd'

A black screen will come up. This is your command prompt.

Type 'ipconfig/release' (without the quotation marks)

You will see some text with a bunch of zeros if it worked

After that comes up type' ipconfig/renew' (again without the quotation marks)

You should be granted a new IP address from your DHCP server. If it worked, you will see a number like 192.168.0.1 (or something similar)

You can close the black command prompt box.
