Optimum Online Users

If there is one pc in the house that is connected via optimum online cable modem, can it really be that to add another pc in the house is an additional $44 per month?

I just called to ask and that's the answer I got but that seems crazy!

Re: Optimum Online Users

Sorry - one more question - is the router like an extension cord? Does it connect to the box with the green lights that Optimum Online gives you?

The router is a box. It hooks into ure Cable Modem. It is a box that sits next to ure modem when u turn on ure modem on it automaticle connects ure router to all the other pc's. did that make sense.

Routers kind of spilt the signal up...
I'll check with my husband when I get home to see what he says you'll need! We got optimum online a few years ago so it might be a different configurations than ours! I'll let you know!

Re: Optimum Online Users

Thank you Leelee and June!

Right now there is a cable that goes into the wall and into a thing that looks like a shark fin with green lights on it. It's made by 3COM. Then there's a wire from the shark fin to the hard drive.

This is a pretty old pc, so maybe the shark fin is an external modem?

I'll look around on some websites tonight for some more info. Thank you both very much!!

Re: Optimum Online Users

The Shark Fin is the Cable Modem. That is where ure Router will Plug into.

Re: Optimum Online Users

You take the cable that is now going from the cable modem (the shark fin thing) to your computer - plug that into the router (you plug it into the port on the router that is seperate from the others - on my router (Linksys brand) it is called the 'WAN' port.

Then take two more cables (ethernet cables) and plug from the router to to your computer (where the cable modem was hooked into) The router should do the rest for you (but there's instructions with it - it isn't too hard to set up).

Re: Optimum Online Users

Hi allure!! How are you??

We also have a Linksys one-it's the Instant Broadband Series Etherfast Cable/DSL Router. One end gets plugged into the cable modem and you'll need cables (unless it's a wireless router and you have wireless computers).

Good luck with it!!
