Has anyone here had someone or know someone who had someone who was ordained online perform their ceremony? Both FH and I aren't too religious and don't have a particular church we belong to. Was toying with the idea of having a family member do it so it would be more personal. Thoughts?

Re: Ordained Online
I am pretty sure that in NY you cannot use someone who has been ordained online unless they have also attended a theological type seminary school and are affiliated with some sort of organized religion. If you look on www.nyc.gov there is a whole section about who can become an officiant.
We are using a very nice man named Ben Marlan -- he and his mother are part of a company called Interfaith Ceremonies http://www.interfaithceremonies.com/ and they are both certified officiants.
FH's father wants a man to marry us, so she put us in touch with her son who we really liked when we met him. He is personalizing the service to us and our likes and dislikes, and keeping G-d out of it (which is what FH wants). He's going to include a unity candle (FH wants) and the step on the glass at the end (I want). It's a great compromise for our needs.

DH's brother married us, he was ordained online. We wanted to make sure our marriage was legit because we heard different rules that confused us so we got married at City Hall just in case.

I wish we HAD done that. Instead I went with a LIW vendor and people are still talking about how inappropriate the ceremony was. Yuck!
