I have read and heard that when ordering your dress, you should give them a date that is a month before the actual wedding. Have any of you done this? Or have you given them the actual date? My mother thinks i should have given them a date in May. I didn't think it was a big deal. And now i am sad and stressed!

Re: Ordering the Dress
I gave them my real date, I ordered my dress from the Wedding Salon of Manhasset and they said my dress will be in around Feb/March and my wedding is in June -- so that leaves plenty of time.

Re: Ordering the Dress
I gave them a week before my actual date. Only downside is that you have to pick up your dress early, unless you want to confess. Mine was hanging in my living room for 9 days.

Re: Ordering the Dress
I gave them the actual date.
The reason girls do give a fake date is so that if there are any problems they can guarantee the dress is in. if you give them an earlier date they will complete your alterations 1 month early and you will have to take your dress with you-they wont store it for you after your date so if you decide to do this make sure you have a place to store your dress
I gave my real date-had major issues with my salon and trust that my dress was ready to go for my wedding. i wouldnt sweat it at all.

Re: Ordering the Dress
I used to work in a bridal shop in Scarsdale and girls would give a date a month before... I bought my gown from there and I gave the exact date... Its not a big deal!! Trust me, don't stress it!! If you are having your alterations done by that bridal shop it's good that you gave the exact date for fitting purposes... If your that worried, call them and tell them you changed the date for earlier!

Re: Ordering the Dress
I gave my real date. They said it will take 10-12 weeks to come in and it came in a week later!

Re: Ordering the Dress
well, it seems like you have plenty of time. I gave them a fake date because I was ordering 6 months before my wedding. but it turned out that the dress only took two weeks anyway. i wouldn't worry!

Re: Ordering the Dress
When I ordered my dress I told them December 8th and not the 29th- I didn't want to be running around too much right before the holidays.
It was also one less thing to worry about towards the end.

Re: Ordering the Dress
I gave my legit date for my wedding. And my first fitting is next week. I have faith in my boutique. Trust me, you don't want it arriving early nad then just gathering dust and yellowing on the rack so to speak. Also you don't want to finish your alterations a month before your wedding as you might lose weight etc. Better be honest. Just continue to follow up with the salon over the next year. Call every month to check on everything.

Re: Ordering the Dress
I gave my real date and my dress actually came in so early that I sent it back and had them order me a new dress to come in a little later
