DO NOT QUIT YOUR JOB!!!!!
When I started the LPN program here they told me the same thing. I am telling you from experiance that I wish I didnt quit my job. It is totally doable. Especially if your only working 20 hours.
There are lots of girls in my class that work full time and have families and they are doing it.
Try working your 20 hours and then if you feel you cant handle it cut back. Try it first............its really not that bad!

Re: orientation...
I am not a nurse, but I did the accelerated social work graduate program...full time classes and 21 hours a week of internship, and I worked...and it was hard, but I had to work! There were weeks I was living on quarters, but it goes really quick, and before you know it you will be done!! It is totally worth it...and you will be so proud of yourself when it is done!

Re: orientation...
It will be hard at first you just have to learn to pace yourself and manage your time wisely. When I was getting my masters I had a full-time job teaching, a part-time job working 20-25 hrs (2 nights during the week and the weekend) a week and going to grad school 2 nights a week. You WILL feel stressed but it is definitely worth it in the long run. Just hang in there and take it easy. Good luck!!!

Re: orientation...
my school told me if we're working part time we should take 2 classes max. I work 14+ hours a week and last semester and took 4 classes, it was hectic but I still got through it. It's going to be a lot of hard work but you can work and go to school.

Re: orientation...
thanks so much for the encouragement! i talked to my boss today and he totally understands hes fresh out of school hes a doctor so he gets it. but he said we'll see how it goes if i need to cut back hours its not prob he totally supports me going to school and would love to see me be a NP so its really nice to have a boss that supports my decisions. im just really nervous about the whole thing. so well see. as of now im keeping my 18 hours and if i have to ill cut out one of my days. no big deal! I totally undersdtand how you feel. When FH was in the doctorate program for Psych, they told him the same thing (that was for 4 years). He didn't work, he couldnt, the work was too demanding, Luckily he was able to make it through with the help of living home and his savings.
You will get through it.. esp if this is what you really want to do. 13 months seems like a long time.. but it will fly by and maybe you can get some odd jobs to do.
