Our apartment has more problems than we thought

Our apartment has more problems than we thought

We went to take measurements today and the owner started packing and now we see all the little holes all over her wallpaper from the wall hangings, her wall paper is peeling, there are some cracks in the ceiling and the mirror on one of her doors is cracked. I'm not sure if it's a legal apartment. Does she have to have all of this fixed before we move in? The owner is the one who lives there so she is responsible for all the damage. Otherwise it's going to cost us a lot of money.

Usually the landlord is responsible. If the person who lived there before caused the damage then she shouldn't get the security deposit back!

I would also make sure when you do the walk through that they document everything that wasn't fixed prior to your move in. Our carpet wasn't replaced so we don't have to make sure it is cleaned before we move. The previous tenants are responsible

I know that when my mom moved out of her apartment, they did a walk through. She got a full refund of her deposit because we lived there for 15 years and the only things that needed to be fixed were because of 'normal wear and tear'.

but, before the new tennants moved it, the place was completely renovated. So, I think you should pursue it with the owner and make her do all of the repairs.

Also, make sure that she gets a certificate of occupancy before you move in.
