We got the most adorable king charles cavalier puppy...hes 5 months old now and only 4lbs...such a cuttie...anyways, he doesnt seem to want to eat on his own. If i hand feed him he will eat but if i leave him in cage by himself with the food he wont eat it. we have had him for about a month and this was a problem at first but the vet gave us some special kind of food and he started to eat it on his own. the past week or so he doesnt seem to want to eat on his own! I took him back to the vet and he sai dhes not sick or anything...im not sure what to do I cant keep hang feeding him! has anyone had this problem? or can anyone give me some sugestions?

Re: our puppy...
My vet would probably tell you to mix a little something in for a bit, and lessen the amount every time you feed him. That will get him in the habit of eating. That or just leave it out and he'll eat when he's hungry. I know Kings are very picky eaters. I checked out your pics. What a cutie pie!
I would do what someone else suggested, try mixing something in his food that he will really like, one of his treats or something. Good luck!

Now i tried mixing in some dry food with the mixed food and hes still not eating unless we feed him off our fingers...maybe i should call the vet again and see what he suggests next...ugh this guy prob hates me I call im so much! Good luck with your puppy....he must a picky eater...I would def mix his food...I used to boil chopped meat (smells gross) and mix it with white rice and doggie food....this helped my dog to eat

hand feeding is the worst. i would really reccommend you stop doing that because i did that for a while and it just made her want to eat only that way. i have a pomeranian who is also a picky eater but if they are hungry they will eat. there are still days when she goes without eating anything because i refuse to feed her what i am eating....but she survives..
i have also been told that you shouldnt leave food out all day.... so you might want to just schedule an eating time. some people have told me that that works.
oh and fyi...make sure she dosnt get into any machademia nuts....i gave my pom a few one time and it caused temporary peralisis(sp?).

fh has a mini yorkie and he is now two and still has this problem at times. Will he take the food and eat it if hes ON you?
Have you tried to make your own mix and use the liquid on his food? Sometimes the smell of something new makes them want to eat...

awwe. how cute. i want a dog, but we are waiting until we have a house.
I had a simular situtaion. i had a rotti, we had gotten her at 4 weeks. we hand feed her all the time because that was the only way she would eat...i did this for a few months...my vet told me to stop doing this. he also told me to sit with her while she eats. point to her food and water, let her know where it is..she may not know her bearings. It worked for me. Also tell the dog it's food time...believe me they won't starve. i know it's upsetting, but everything will work out
