Our Troops

HAD to post this...

It may take you two minutes to read this, but if you do not take the time to read this you are one of the people this post is talking about.

You stay up for 16 hours

He stays up for days on end.
_________________________

You take a warm shower to help you wake up.

He goes days or weeks without running water.
__________________________

You complain of a 'headache', and call in sick.

He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.
__________________________

You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends.

He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.
__________________________

You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket.

He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.
__________________________

You talk trash about your 'buddies' that aren't with you.

He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.
__________________________

You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.

He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.
_________________________

You complain about how hot it is.

He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow.
__________________________

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.

He doesn't get to eat today.
__________________________

Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes.

He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean.
__________________________

You go to the mall and get your hair redone.

He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today.
__________________________

You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.

He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months.
__________________________

You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight.

He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.
__________________________

You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.

He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.
__________________________

You roll your eyes as a baby cries.

He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet
__________________________

You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.

He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting.
__________________________

You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him.

He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded.
__________________________

You see only what the media wants you to see.

He sees the broken bodies lying around him.
__________________________

You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.

He does exactly what he is told.
__________________________

You stay at home and watch TV.

He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat.
__________________________

You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable.

He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long.

__________________________

You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse place because of men like him.

If only there were more men like him

Thank you. My FH just returned from a year in Iraq a few months ago. We really could learn a lot from our men and women in the armed forces.

Thank you for posting. FH did two tours in Iraq and it's always so heartening when people support the actual troops.

Thank you for posting this.

My brother is in the Navy so not the front lines.
But he is in the Persian Gulf right now and will hopefully be home just in time for my wedding.

I am a liberal but politics don't matter - no matter how you feel about this war you NEED to rspect and honor those who fight in it.

Thank you to everyone who read this and now understands a little bit of what that life is like.

God Bless Our Troops!

As someone who is VERY much against this war and with friends and family who mostly are as well, I have NEVER heard anyone do, say, or wear anything disrespectful about our troops. Just because you are anti war doesn't mean you are anti troops and questioning your goverment doesn't show a lack of patriotism. It really irks me to read things like that.. Sorry. Rant over.

EXACTLY what I was about to say. Thank you! I'm against the war, yet have a friend over there for the last 3 years (first in the army, then as a contractor)

Everyone appreciates what they do, but NOT everyone (including some guys over there) agrees with WHY they're there. And that is truly sad.

to criticize the administration is NOT criticizing the troops. Bush wishes he was that noble!

fh is in the army so this is really touching. I'm crying right now. I think it's amazing when people support the troops and realize that if they weren't fighting for our country .. nobody would. They are very brave men and women.

That's where part of the issue is though....

Most of the troops out there don't agree with the war, but they are still out there.

When people do criticize the administration, however, most lump it together with the issue of the troops. You may not support the war, but you do support the troops--that little distinction has a tendency to be lost.

I was watching tv once and they were showing one of the many anti-war protests that they held in the city. This was a huge protest and there was this lady on tv--her husband was in Iraq and she was on television talking about her anti-war stance (which she has every right to do), but also saying how she doesn't support her husband out there and is really mad at him and hasn't tried to communicate with him since. That was the saddest thing because with an FH whose done two deployments in 3 years, I know how EXTREMELY important it is to have personal support for the troops out there.

My younger brother is serving in Iraq right now and after reading this, I just worried more about him and his troops

portjeffbride Posted:

Re: Our Troops

that's very true.... it's incredibly important to support the troops. BUT, that the vast majority of people against the decision to go to war are so verbal precisely BECAUSE they care for the troops. It's actually political propaganda that they don't. Trust me. I roll in those circles, and like Bunny said, no one says anything disparaging about the troops. It doesn't even make sense to. They didn't CHOOSE to invade Iraq. They merely vowed to take orders of the gov't. Actually, anti-war folk feel the cause is not worth risking their lives, and they want them home.

The Gov't is hiding behind the honor of our soldiers, equating criticizing their incredibly flawed policies (and outright lies) with criticizing the troops. So disrespectful and nasty. Our freedoms (including speech and the right to bear arms) are based on the people being able to speak up and keep their leaders in check. To not criticize what you feel is wrong is to be unamerican.

I am REALLY PO'ed at the gov't right now... because I was VERY worried my friend was getting shot at and didn't have sufficient armor when she was in the army. All I could do was offer to buy anything at an army surplus store and ship it to her, if she needed it. Now it's not an issue, since she's a contracter now. (another nauseating issue I won't get into... contractors are protected and paid well while soldiers aren't)

Last I heard from her(last week), she claimed she was out of harms way at the moment (I seriously think she lies to me so I don't worry, though ), but said she really can't handle being there anymore, and I should yell at her if she even considers another appointment with the contractor firm.
