Our Weekend Project

Our Weekend Project

Ok so it took more than a weekend--
We had to replace the handrail all around the deck and DH spent the entire week sanding the deck--
and it took us a day and half to paint and I am sooo happy with the results

It was worth every minute of it

Very nice Laura!

My DH is handy like that! Isn't it a good feeling?

Looks great! We painted a porch half that size and it was lots of work, so I know how much effort you must have put into your deck. It's a great feeling to finish a project like that.

Re: Our Weekend Project

Looks gorgeous !!

How often do outdoor decks have to be touched up? I know wood needs lots of touching up and maintenance to keep as beautiful as you have it! We have a wood deck/steps out front that needs touching up

Great job !!!!

Re: Our Weekend Project

Thanks everyone-- can't wait for our BBQ this weekend
As far as maintenance goes-- this deck is on the older side (not sure # of years but more than 5-8 easily) and the last people tried power washing and 'ruined'part of it - you can't tell but we can-- so with that being said they just painted/sealed over the wood without sanding--- so we started over sanded the whole thing then painted/sealed--should last at least 2 years and probably more--
Does your steps collect water? or does it bead up?
We powerwashed, then sanded, then painted-- you could skip steps but then you will pay for it down the road

Re: Our Weekend Project

looks great! its so much work, but totally worth it.

we have been working on our deck (powerwashing- big mistake- & sanding) for weeks. we do a little bit at a time (large deck). tonight we'll finish sanding the floor & hopefully we'll stain it this week. our deck was in bad shape when we moved in. you just reminded me to take pictures before we stain it!
