Okay, so I went to a wedding this past weekend in PA and it just serves to show you how all out people here go for weddings. It was in a Best Western with about 5 other weddings taking place there and the food looked like my mom put it on the tale and the DJ never got the party started; I could go on and on but it might take a whole page...Oh, how I appreciate the LI Weddings!!!!!!!!!

yea I went to lunch with a friend today who just got back from a wedding in MA, I think? anyway, she said it was in a tent which she said was nice but for the bathroom they had ONE port-a-potty and she said it was miserable.

Re: Out of state weddings...
Some of my friends and family from OOT that were at our e-party this weekend said, 'If this was the e-party, we can't wait for the wedding!' lol
A lot of other states don't have the banquet halls that we have and they use hotels like the best western. One of my BMs had her huge wedding in a Holiday Inn and it was WONDERFUL!

Re: Out of state weddings...
though i do have to say something about the fact that NY weddings are kinda 'over the top'.....and no - i don't mean that in a bad way....but it's true.

I definitely agree, but when I listen to my own thoughts about the PA wedding I'm kinda glad I'm on the over the top side...you know???

Oh yes - FH & i kept saying - this is like a blueprint of what we DO NOT WANT...with regards to the Chicago wedding...but it was still a nice time!

LOL! Then you get people like us that go to weddings OOT and we're like it was cr*p! It's just very different, but I do know what you mean about being on the over the top side.

Re: Out of state weddings...
I think there are two huge differences between LI Weddings and out of state weddings.....
1. Cocktail hour is just that.....COCKTAILS! They ususally serve some passing hot food or have a table of cheese and crackers but not nearly the amount of food that our cocktail hours have here!
2. The reception goes in a very different order... They start with serving your first course, then second, then sometime I have seen them cut the cake.... then do all the speaches... then once all the eating and talking is over...the we dance the night away. They seem to want to get everything out of the way first and then dance and party.

Re: Out of state weddings...
Out of state weddings are definitely different!
FH and I went to a wedding in MD over the summer -- and the cocktail hour was cocktails, cheese, and they also had coffee set up!
However, sometimes, they're even more over the top than us. FH was married before -- and he was married in Philadelphia -- with a $70,000 budget that went over by about $20,000. (His ex wife's parents have a lot of $$$$ )
So, just like NY, it all depends on what you can afford!
