Out of the box venue ideas...

Hi ladies,

Just got engaged this month and am having some trouble thinking about venues. For years I have said that I wanted something different than a catering hall. Problem is, that isn't the easiest thing to find when you're on a tight budget and looking at 150 person guest list. I tried out a few halls just to see if maybe I could open my mind to it but nothing is popping out to me. Any ideas on places that have a real relaxed vibe that is a little less formal?

Any advice is much appreciated!

the milleridge cottage (not the Inn!) :) no ugly italian catering hall carpet! It's all hardwood floors, and has a laid-back, yet still elegant feel to it. It has a really large room for the reception, but it's got such a home-y feel to it which I loved. It's also one wedding at a time so the entire place is just for you and your guests. The price is great too, and the food is the best I've had at a wedding so far, which is actually the #1 reason we didn't really look anywhere else

The Three Village Inn is a great option!

what about looking into renting out space somewhere and bringing in your own catering? It's probably not cheap, you would have to keep it a small to keep the cost down. A vineyard, a barn, a historical house, a park, a beach, etc...

I highly recommend checking out Thatched Cottage! You feel as though the place is all yours on your wedding day. They are so accommodating and attentive. Plus the cocktail hour (the amount of food / presentation) cannot be beat!

My FI and I felt the same, which is why we're having a vineyard wedding. I would definitely check out some of the wineries in Jamesport/Riverhead/Greenport. Some are pricey, but there are a few that are less expensive. FM me if you want more details :)

I think you can host a wedding at Seatuck Environmental Center in Islip. I don't have any idea what pricing is like, but it certainly does not have the typical catering hall vibe.
Have to agree with the other girls that suggested Three Village too... I really do like the look of the venue.

Other ideas... Bates House at Ward Melville Park in Setauket or Brecknock Hall in Greenport.

I would look into Flowerfield. If you want more of a restaurant feel, try H20 in smithtown, or Insignia steak house- I know they are doing weddings there and I recently saw a bride on here booked there!!!! I love love love that place and would have totally done my wedding there had my mom been more open to it! :)

A friend of mine got married at the former EAB plaza across from Nassau colosseum that changes names all the time...they had to bring in food, tables, etc...but I know they were on a budget...but it was really cool and different!

I am having my wedding at Insignia.
It definately is a unique venue with excellent food. The only draw back is you have to have a day wedding.
