Ok, after getting off the phone with my nephew (he's 4) I'm MORE then convinced that my shower is Saturday!!!!!
I kind of had a feeling because there's been too many loose lips lately and then Joe's father called up the other night to invite us to a 'lunch' for his grandmother's 85th b'day (which is next week). Now, who goes to 'lunch' on a Saturday afternoon at 12PM???? That's a Sunday time! Wouldn't you go to dinner on a Saturday? And since I haven't received any other invitations in the mail, that's the way they're getting me there I guess.
Then Joe's friend called to invite us to their house in Staten Island and Joe disappeared in the bedroom to talk (but I was trying to watch the end of Paradise Hotel, so I didn't pay any mind to that) and when he got off the phone and told me we were invited, I said we could go later on, but he said no. Hint number 2.
Also, a couple of weeks ago his grandmother goofed about his mother coming down this week and the following week. OOPS!
The only surprise is the place -- my mother had goofed a month ago and said something about being in Whitestone with my MIL, so I thought my shower was over there. But it looks like it's going to be at Abbracciamento's on Saturday.
Which leads me back to my nephew (yes, the tangent queen is coming to the point of her story ): he gets on the phone with me and says 'Aunt Dabie, we're going to your party tomorrow' and I said 'what' and he says 'are we coming to your party tomorrow' and I could hear my sister cringe over the phone and I said, ever so innocently, 'I'm not having a party' and then she got on the phone and I was talking about the other stuff he was saying before then.
So I played it cool and I know she's sh*ting a brick right now!
Now, I really wish it was a surprise because I'm going to be a nervous wreck Sat going there and 'pretending' I know squat. I really am the easiest person to surprise because I'm pretty much clueless and walk around w/my head up my a$$, but how do I act dumb now????? At least I get to pick out my outfit!
Watch, knowing my luck lately, I'm wrong and it's not! What a chooch I'll feel like then, huh?
Edited to say, I don't want to spoil the surprise for my mother and sister because I know when I was planning my sister's showers (bridal & baby) and she found out, I was ticked off!! I'm even playing dumb w/my friends! I don't want them to think I know either!

Re: Out of the mouths of babes.....
I just wish I had time to get my hair done! That might be a give away though -- as my father says, my hair always looks like the rats were at it -- which Joe loves and says I look like a wildwoman !! Me, I just call it the mop!
I'm going to get my nails done tomorrow night though!

Debbie, start practicing your surprised and shocked face so that you'll have it mastered by Saturday. (who knows you might be shocked after all when you walk in and it's NOT your shower). Have fun!!!

Re: Out of the mouths of babes.....
you really can't tell them anything and I'm sure your sister has now realized that too!!! Try to keep it together on Saturday so that they don't realize the surprise has been spoiled.

Re: Out of the mouths of babes.....
Somewhat unrelated, but yet another example of what and why you can't tell them.
When my son was young I read all the books, talked to all the experts, and was very open with him. At around 3 he discovered his 'parts' and asked questions. I answered on his age-appropriate level.
Well, he was a talker. He'll ask me anything, and I most often try to answer. He asked me where babies came from. He knew the body's parts, so I built on that rather than entertain the stork stories. Luckily I wasn't presented with the how they're made or how they get in there question. I answered as age appropriately as I could.
So a few weeks later we're on the bus. A business woman in a red suit boards, 8mo pregnant belly and all. He's talking up a storm on the bus. All eyes on him. Said business woman leans over and in a goo-gooo ga-ga voice and asks him what his name was. He tells her and then gets right to asking his questions.
'Are you having a baby?' Ooohs and Aaaahs, and Aaaaaws from the crowd. She says in a similarly sweet, high-pitched goo-goo ga-ga voice, 'Why yes I am!'. Little darling proceeds with a very animated hands strectched out as far as they would go, 'Did you know your ******'s gonna get thiiiiiiis big' (I swear I didn't describe it that way!), 'and you're gonna have to push real hard like, grrrrrrr' red face shaking as he concentrates on demonstrating. She didn't say a word. A hush came across that bus that you could slice with a knife. No one goo-goo ga-gaed him after that. At least not on that bus. I swear, from the look on her face she wasn't aware of what was ahead for her.
And please believe me when I say I didn't tell him all that. At least not like that. My mistake, told him the baby didn't come out of the belly button like he asked. He knew the terms so I told him it comes out of the ******. Asked if the ****** broke, I said luckily its like an elastic (see, maybe he should have told her that because she looked scared when he said thiiiiis big). Asked if the baby falls out when the mother's walking, I said no, the baby's pushed out. He used his imagination for the rest. I had nightmares for a long time thinking about what his images were. It seemed like such an innocent matter of fact, short conversation at the time.
OK, your rival tangeant queen agrees, we must be very careful with what we tell them because they like to share. Oh, and they might not be ready to hear it. Have a great shower!

Wow
Wasn't aware that the V-word would be bleeped. Maybe I do speak too literally and offer too much information.
For future reference, what should I have typed instead?
Not with my kids, but for this site.

Re: Wow
RG, I'm LMAO with that story!!!!!! (As for the bleeping of the 'v' word, just type vag'l or something like that.) Your son sounds hysterical!!! And glad to have another tangent queen aboard!!!
Thanks everyone and I'm pretty sure it's tomorrow because my mother left me a voicemail and I heard that cute little voice of my nephew in the background!! I wish I was a fly on the wall there just now when I called, because he runs for the phone -- they must be holding him down with a hand over his mouth, since he never shuts up!! (Think he takes after his aunt? ) Meanwhile my mother goes to me 'I think we're going to go to Jersey this weekend to see your sister' NOT!!!!
I was going to ask Joe last night, but I don't want to spoil his fun either. My friend keeps asking me what I'm doing NEXT weekend (don't worry Cira, I think it's a ploy)!!! She loves to throw me off, but I'm not grabbing the line -- I'm playing dumb and saying I have a 'lunch' for his grandmother!!
This should be interesting!! Watch, because I opened my mouth here, I'm going to be the fool and there's no shower for me!!!
Ok Stacey, now the last coinky dink we can possibly have is to have our babies on the same day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How are your levels? Did you get that gluometer yet and did they put you on insulin? I've been increased AGAIN and if it's still not down on Monday, another increase!! Just call me the Insulin Queen! It seems I might have a bit of insulin resistance -- add that to my never-ending list of problems!! I'm telling ya, it started at birth -- I was in such a rush to get out (7 1/2 wks preemie) and it was all down hill from there!
I will give you all a full report on Monday whether I was right or had to wipe the egg off my face!
