out of town bags

I was thinking of not doing them. Is that ok?

I'm thinking the same thing but my FMIL made a face when I told her that. Are you having a lot of OOT guests?

i'm not doing them too, it's totally optional...

goody bags for kids, crypacks, bathroom baskets are also optional ... some ppl don't even do ceremony programs!

less work = less stress & less money from your pocket

:D

Once when I went to an oot wedding there was a potted plant...like the ones you get at x-mas in my room with a little card attached...you could always do something like that?

I think that's a nice idea, but as someone who is flying to an OOT wedding in a few weeks, I have no idea how I'd transport something like that home. It might be an expensive thing to do if the OOT people won't be able to get it home.

As for not doing OOT bags, I think that's fine. It's definitely optional. Having gone to a lot of weddings recently though, I will say that I do look forward to the OOT bags. Especially after a long trip, it's kind of nice to arrive at the hotel and have a bag of candy or bottled water waiting. That being said, I never think 'geez, no OOT bag!' if someone doesn't do them. It's an added bonus, but certainly not required. Good luck

I agree with jenniesunshine! The plant would be tough to travel with. The bags are nice but not necessary. I do look forward to them too. We are doing them.

good point about the plant.

I'm having trouble figuring out what to put in the bags?? How much should you spend on each?

I had really good luck buying things in bulk on eBay - Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies, bottled water, etc. As for what to put in them, I think they can be as simple or as complicated as you want. Some of the 'usual' items I've seen are bottled water or soda, candy of all kinds, and chips or cookies.

This site gave me some great ideas about things to put in OOT bags: Welcom Bag Co.

I'm planning on going to BJ's or Costco to get things to put in there. I got the bags from Michaels with coupons so they were really cheap.

We usually receive 2 bottles of water and some snacks (we've gotten cookies, candy, chips, gum, goldfish, handisnacks, etc). Whatever you want to put in them/spend.

Re: out of town bags

since mine is a summer wedding I got pails with the shovel attached at Michaels on sale with a coupon last april and we are going to fill them with area information, maps, restaurant options, directions, some coupons for local places, and candy, snacks and something to drink!! and a little advil for the next morning!

edited ..oops forgot to answer the OP..
no i don't think its something you HAVE to do, its your wedding do what you can and what makes you and your FH happy !! GL

I would love to do them, but since I have a good portion of my invited guests coming from OOT I'm afraid it will get expensive.
Also who puts them in the room? Is like the favors where you bring them to the place and they put them in the room on the day of?

i'm also trying to do these without spending too much. i'm putting in...

a bottle of water (each)
prezles
tic tacs
wedding day timeline
map of area (provided my hotel)
local treat** i'm getting married in central nj, so i did a little research and found a local fruit (cranberry... cranberry bread) i also found out that m&ms are made locally, so a small bag of m&ms

i'm also including a list of local phone numbers.ie. bp, extended family
i'm putting in coloring books for one oot bag... ringbearer is in that room.

finally i'm including an informal invite to breakfast the morning after the wedding.

i'm puttin them all in a gift bag and making sure everything is consumable so as not to give my guests something more to pack for their trip home

We just delivered them to the hotel where we'd blocked rooms and they had on their computer system all of the people who had booked a room in our block. So, whenever someone checked in from our block, they give them an OOT bag.

of all the weddings where i stayed at a hotel - about 95% of the weddings i've been to - only 2 had oot bags. so, i think it's totally ok not to do them.

i'm not doing them but crypacks packages of tissues used for wiping away 'tears of joy'. i think it's a bit presumptuous to think your guests will be crying at your wedding? so i'm not doing them...
