My FH and I are planning on having a lot of out of town guests. Any suggestions on what to do about hotels? Do I block out rooms (from what I hear, if I do that, I have to pay for any rooms that I guarantee even if guests dont use them) or do I just give my guests a list of hotels to call and check the rates on. The other thing is that we are planning on providing coach bus transportation from the hotel to the church and reception. So it would be better if most of the guests were at 1 hotel. I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any hotels to recommend?? Suggestions?

I forgot to mention, church is in Blue Point, reception is in Port Jefferson. I am looking for hotels somewhere in the middle.

I'm not sure about which hotels, but if you do a block you don't pay, they reserve a certain number of rooms for you and your guests have to book by a certain cut off date to be in the block/get the special rate. Some hotels even provide shuttles to reception locations if you block a certain number of rooms! HTH!

We reserved Holiday Inn Express in Stony Brook for $109 a night! It's close to Lombardi's..

When you block rooms you should not be responsible for them - they usually release the rooms 30 days prior if no one has res'd.
I used Alert buses for the transport they were great!!!!!!!!! They picked up at the hotel brought to the church - back to the hotel for the time in between and then 2 trips to the reception hall and back. We had the bus for 12 hours

i did NOT have to pay for any rooms that weren't booked. If u block rooms they should give you a release date...which simply means any rooms not booked by a certain date will be released. We were also given a set number at a time...for instance they let us block 20rooms....then once those 20 were booked, they'd release another 20 and so on. In NO way should u have to pay for any unbooked rooms.
