One of the gowns I am interested in trying on has subtle pick ups on the skirt. One thing I have been thinking about lately is whether the dress will look outdated overtime. This never occurred to me until a bridal consultant I was working with mentioned it. I like both straight and pick up skirts and she told me that pick ups are a trend and that overtime the pick up skirt may become outdated I don't want to look back at my photos 30 years from now thinking the dress is completely outdated (I guess similar to how we may look at trendy 80s wedding dresses thinking they look outdated). This is making me think I may want a more traditional skirt but I don't know because I love the dress with the pick ups!!! I posted a pic of the dress below. I haven't tried it on yet, but will be trying it on soon. What are your thoughts on whether pick ups will become outdated overtime??

Re: Outdated Wedding Gown???
I think everything you try on now will look 'so 2011' 30 years from now. I f you love something and it's not such an over the top trend that it'll be ridiculous, I think you should go for it. It's a sign of the times, I don't think that's a problem.

Re: Outdated Wedding Gown???
I have to agree - no matter what trend you get now will be outdated 30 years from now. But if you really love the dress and can't picture youself in anything else, I think you answered your own questions.
I can see how pick-ups are a trend right now and that's okay - if it's something you like now, then go for it. It's not that significant of a trend where it would stick out that much.

Re: Outdated Wedding Gown???
As long as it doesnt resemble anything from the 80s I think you'll be fine. And if something makes you happy NOW you shouldnt bother worrying about how you'll feel about it in 30 yrs.

Go with something you absolutely love! If it looks outdated in 30 years... who cares!! You and your hubby will have something to look back at and laugh about! Don't change something you love because of someone else's comment. Do what makes you happy!

Go with what you love! 30 years from now everything will look outdated. I have the pickups on my gown and I think that they are so elegant looking.

ITA. Though I definitely don't think *every* style of wedding gown will be dated in thirty years, there are a lot of classics out there!

Go with what you love. It's your dress & so what if it's outdated, thats what you like, but I honestly think the pick up look is going to be in for a while!

Re: Outdated Wedding Gown???
i'd say go with what you want to wear NOW because youre getting married at the PRESENT - NOT in the FUTURE/30yrs from now. think about what would make you feel beautiful for your day and dont waste worrying over something that may or may not even happen (outdated gown)

Re: Outdated Wedding Gown???
Thanks girls for your responses!!! I'm going to focus on what I feel best in NOW and stop worrying about 30 years into the future! It's just that what the consultant said to me has been running through my mind. But I feel a lot better now.

You should get what you love. I love a dress that had the pick ups. My dress has them all over. I think that the style will not be outdated by 2011.

The dress pic you posted is beautiful, Pick ups may not always be in but this is a classy dress. Def a trendy dress but still manages to stay timeless!

Re: Outdated Wedding Gown???
i honestly really dislike the pickups and completely agree that it is a trend and will look very silly in 10 years! That being said....my mom had a very outdated look with her wedding gown and i dont think its horrible when i look at teh picture i just think oh my mom got married in that time period, so if you really love it, now is what matters.

Re: Outdated Wedding Gown???
I'm a pick up gown bride and very proud of it! LOL...as long as you don't have poofy sleeves and babie's breath you are good to go. Go with the dress you love..I tried on the 'classic looks' which was always my vision and they really didn't compare to the gown that I picked. Pick ups weren't even my first choice, but I fell in love with it. The fashion police aren't going to come after you in 30 years and even if its ' just a trend' if will be something that was different and it will show how both brides and designers both stepped out of the box with fashion

Re: Outdated Wedding Gown???
1) Who cares if it looks 'outdated?' If you love it and you are happy in it, it shouldn't matter. My mom got married in a very early 70's style dress -- obviously 'outdated' -- but she looked fabulous and she loved it and still does.
2) Get rid of the bridal consultant. You liked a dress and looked great in it and she tried to put it down? I wouldn't want to work with that person.

ITA.
my sister & i used to call pick-ups, cupcakes, because they look like the top of an iced cupcake. then i put one on & fell in love with it. just like everyone else said, you have to pick a dress that you love. when you look at your pictures in 30 years you will remember your wedding day & how much you loved your dress not if it fits with the time. i think that was a stupid thing for your bridal consultant to say.

Re: Outdated Wedding Gown???
No matter what dress you pick will look outdated in 30 years. Fashion changes and not a single dress will still be instyle. Pick what you like and in 30 yrs you will look and your photos and laugh and think about what a great day you had
