We're planning on having an outdoor ceremony and since FH is Catholic we were going to do the unity candle. I have a feeling that since we're going to be by the water, the candles may not stay lit. Any suggestions? Anyone have a similar situation?

Re: outdoor ceremony
I was worried about the same thing! We brought it up to our officiant and he said it was never a problem. (but then again we are being married outside at the Huntington Townhouse and not at the beach). I guess you could put the candles in some kind of glass!

Re: outdoor ceremony
We had this problem. We got married at Port Jeff Country Club under the gazebo overlookign the water. I was going to get hurricaine glasses to put the candles in but never found any to fit. Well the day of the wedding we did have a problem. The candles would not stay lit, everyone thought it was very funny. What we did was brought them inside after the ceremony and placed them by the cake on the table. We lit them when we cut the cake. At least they got lit and everyone had a big laugh when they kept going out outside. Something to remember. Hurricaine glasses for over them are probably a good idea if you want them to stay lit. Good luck!

Re: outdoor ceremony
Ours stayed lit for like a second and then went out. I was ok with that, it was just for the symbolism of our two families joining.
Actually, to be honest I was on such a high nothing at all bothered me that day.

Re: outdoor ceremony
We're doing a hand binding ceremony instead for this reason at the suggestion of our officiants!

Re: outdoor ceremony
Forgive me for my ignorance, but what's a hand binding ceremony? What is the religious meaning of it?
