At Smithtown Landing, there's this great deck where they sometimes set up the ceremony if outdoors is an option.
I'm dying to use the deck, but couldn't justify losing the price quote just to move it to a later date for the use of the deck.
My question is, what do you think is the likelihood that we could have our ceremony outside, without it being uncomfortable for guests?
Our ceremony will only be a half hour long and it's at 2:30 in the afternoon, so it would probably be optimal sun, if it's good weather.
It's the second-to last Sunday in March, because the last day of March in 2013 is Easter Sunday. So, we took March 24th.
I just can't seem to remember what the weather is like that time of the year, especially since this past winter was so bad.
What do you girls think?? Should I just count on it being inside???

Re: Outdoor Ceremony at end of March?
I would def go for the outdoor ceremony. This year on St. Pat's day was gorgeous!! If they allow you to do the outside ceremony in March, i say go for it. We were initially going to do March and a certain RH said they wouldn't allow the outside ceremony or cocktail hour during that month, so that annoyed me.... lol.

Re: Outdoor Ceremony at end of March?
Actually, Smithtown Landing was the one who suggested we use the outdoor space if it's nice enough out. So, I'm just going to cross my fingers! :)
Thank you!

Re: Outdoor Ceremony at end of March?
It depends. March can be really tricky with the weather. Sometimes towards the end of the month it will warm up quickly.. other times it will still be cold/chilly. When do you have to make up your mind if you'll use the deck or not? Is this a decision you can make lets say the week of the wedding?
I googled nyc weather in March and found this in a site:
March
Average High - 50°F / 10°C Average Low - 35°F / 2°C
Most New Yorkers consider March weather to be the most unpredictable. Snow and other forms of wintry weather are still in the forecast even though the official start of spring occurs in March.

It totally depends and there is no way to predict it (same as an afternoon in june could rain out!) Def plan on it, but be flexible with back up plan that it may be indoors. My brother and FSIL are planning an outdoor ceremony for April 7 wedding.

I agree with the above. It's unpredictable and you will just have to makre sure you're okay with either alternative

I actually looked there and they were super nice even suggesting that they would rent heaters if necessary. they said it isn't often done but they have done it before and would be happy to do it again. i think depending on the day you might be able to get away with it. good luck!

Re: Outdoor Ceremony at end of March?
I'd say go for it, but I would note on the invitation or somewhere that it will be an outdoor ceremony, pending weather conditions. Weather in March can go either way.

I'd at least go for it! See how the weather is and then decide

I'm going through the same thing and they told me we could decide right at the last minute. I would soooo rather get married in the garden area than in the veranda at Sand Castle. They have those mushroom heaters they said we could use too.

Re: Outdoor Ceremony at end of March?
We have the same wedding date! :) I was thinking the same thing...March can be unpredictable but i have three hours before my ceremony to decide whether or not to have it indoor or outdoor. My ceremony is half an hr as well. I'm going for the outdoor ceremony. I figure its only half an hour . if it rains then i will have it indoor. Two years ago my sister got married on March 28 and it was cold and rainy but i remember the week before the temp was in the low 70's. I'm hoping that warm day falls on 3/24/13. :)

Awww, you're my date twin!! :) I hope we have nice weather
Thanks, everyone. I think I'm going to try to go for it, but not get my hopes up. If it turns out to be nice weather, awesome. If not, I'm still marrying the love of my life and all will be well.
Thanks!

Re: Outdoor Ceremony at end of March?
I went to a November wedding there. It was a little chilly but the ceremony is only @1/2 hour. The guests wore their jackets and it was fine!

check out this site:

Its a loooong range weather forecaster, so obviously not accurate, but your date looks PERFECT!!! (sunny and high of 62 - couldn't ask for better in March!)
(It doesn't list every town, but I plugged in Setauket -pretty close)
