outer thighs

outer thighs

I am a slender girl but have a 'natural' curve that even with dieting does not go away. Anyone know the best exercise for those outer thighs. I just want to tone them more.

I would love to hear some advice on this as well. That is my major problem area as well, and I would like to tone!

Re: outer thighs

I just started doing the 8 minutes in the morning for lean hip and thin thighs, but its too soon to see results.

I'll let you know in a few weeks

Squats, lunges, and stepping up on a bench doing one set for one leg and then another set for the other (hold dumbbells in your hands if you can) - do these religiously and you'll see results. BUT, you still have to do a good amount of cardio to lose the fat that's covering those muscles. Most women carry their fat in their lower bodies, and the hip and outer thigh fat is the last thing to go. Don't get discouraged, just keep at it and you'll see an improvement. You can do these exercises at the gym or at home. You don't need to use heavy weights, just a lot of reps.
If you want a recommendation for a good workout video for legs, get The Firm standing legs workout. I'm in pretty good shape, but everytime I do this workout it kills me!

Good luck!

If you dont have access to a gym, you can always do this.
Lye on your side, facing a wall (for example) and lift your legs like a scissor.
For more resistance, you can put weights on your thighs and hold them there.
This is good while watching t.v

Re: outer thighs

if you are interested...I found that ballroom dancing was great for the outer thigh/hip...they would burn while we were practicing for the wedding...

but my fat is not located there (its in my tummy) but I have found doing my hill work out has really defined this area...

It's nearly impossible to 'spot train' but I find that rigorous cardio reduces every area......

Re: outer thighs

If you gain muscle that area, or any area for that matter, your metabolism will rise and you will loose fat all over your body. Doing leg raises will not help you gain the muscle mass you need to lift you ass and thighs up! You need to use enough weight (max 12 reps per set) to gain this muscle. Then that fat will melt away, because you body needs to use the calories you body take is(and what is stored) to feed the new muscle.

Squats, leg press, abductor machine, and lunges are great, but don't go too light! It should really be hard to walk after!

Good luck.

really? 12 max? how many sets?

Re: outer thighs

Start with one. Wait a day or so, then do it again. After the first week, do two sets per exercise but only once or twice per week.
then do three sets when you think you can. When you are up to three, you might only train this body part once per week. Not every exercise need to be hit with three sets, do squats, or leg press for three sets, definitly.

Your weights should be high enough so that you can barely get to number 12 in your set. If you can do 13, or 14 no problem, then go up in weight.

Hope this helps!

Re: outer thighs

this goes for arms too I am assuming right?

Re: outer thighs

Slimming down arms? Yes, cardio to lose the fat, then depending on what type of muscularity you're looking for (long and lean, or bulkier) you would then either do higher reps with lighter weights or lower reps with heavier weights. Either method you choose should totally exhaust the muscle in order to see results.

Re: outer thighs

I agree. Alternating with higher reps on day and lower reps another day is good too. For me high reps is between 13-17 reps per set.

When you first start out you should try to do between 12-15 reps per set. But remember, the 15th rep should be almost impossible to do without a spotter. I feel that the formula is thae same until you get to a certain point, then you should mix it up bassed on your goals.

What do you want to accomplish? Who, if anyone would you like to look like? Who to you has an Ideal body realistically that you can obtain realistically? For instance, a famous person? I am curious to know what you look like, and what you want to become. Do you like the look of having small arms with little shape? Do you like arms with some curves? Etc.

Re: outer thighs

Ideally of course, I would love to have Jennifer Aniston's body, but that would never happen. I would have to stop eating. I don't want to drastically change my body, I just want to tone my outer thighs. I cannot think of any famous person that has my body but to be more specific, I am a size 6 to 8 in pants and I wear a size small in shirts. From this you can gather that I have bit of a 'booty'(not to sound funny about it). I don't mind having it, I just want to tone my outer thighs. My ass firms with weight lifting but my outer thighs don't want to budge. My ultimate goal is to walk around in my bathing suit without a skirt or shorts on. I am very self conscious about my outer thighs. My only prob with weight lifting the outer thighs is that my pants get tighter when I lift weights on my outer thighs(like the hip abductor). At this point I would be willing to try something new !!

Re: outer thighs

oh boy, I with I could jump through the computer to show you. LEGS ARE MY FAVORITE EXERCISES TO DO!

1. On your side (flat easiest, on elbow next hardest, upright supported by arm/hand hardest)

2. bring your knee towards your chest then press out/away.
2 sets of 8

3. straight leg (toes pointed foward, not up to ceiling)
lift and lower, controlled, not 'jane-fonda-y'.
2 sets of 8

4. pulse the straight leg up
2 sets of 8

REPEAT 1, 2, 3, 4 (then repeat on other side)

Tell me how you like it
