I want to tell you a little about Joanne. Joanne is a member of our congregation. She is a mother of 6 and has a beautiful granddaughter, my daughter Taylor. I am the oldest of the six children and my mom was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis about 13 years ago. She went from a full functioning woman, wife, mother, homemaker, a true ‘wonder woman’, to being confined to a chair in a somewhat paraplegic state. She only has slight movement of her head and left arm. Her aid or family member must do every little task for her, from simply brushing teeth, to eating, putting on glasses, etc. Joanne still has three of her children living in the home. For several years now, there have been breakdowns in the relationships in the household, including in her marriage. It has not been an easy situation. My siblings who live home were losing hope, had a lack of pride and desire for their home and the surroundings were literally falling apart. God has been doing amazing things in this family this past year to restore and build up the relationships between each of us and our mother. We are all helping to fix up this house and the younger ones are taking a little more pride in it. However, with years of neglect, the yard has become a hopeless task. Having many memories in what was once a ‘home and gardens’ yard, it saddens me each time I step out there. Recently God laid it on my heart to clean it up! I would look up to Him and ask,,,’but how?’ It is too much work for the few of us and we are not financially able to bring in someone to literally perform a miracle. God then laid it on my heart to approach Tim and Diane about having the youth group adopt this yard as a service project this spring. I happen to have a lot of faith in each of you and believe with all my heart that God is going to do a mighty work through all of us to clean up this yard to where it can be enjoyed again. I believe it is a wonderful way to prepare our hearts for the kind of work we’ll be doing this summer for those of us going on the work trip. Even so, it is a wonderful opportunity to help lend a hand to someone right here in our own community! I pray you will join us…bring a friend, your parents, and a servant’s heart to work hard! You will be blessed! I know just hearing about this project has brought tears to my mother’s eyes. Below are the directions to the house, where we’ll meet on Saturday, May 22 at 9:00am. We will be feeding you and keeping you hydrated throughout the day. Please do not hesitate to call me with any questions.
With a Grateful Heart,
Tara Grey
