Outside Bridal Purchases & Alterations

If you ordered your dress from an outside source (say netbride, RKbridal, etc) who are are you bringing your alterations to?

I know most people who buy their dress at a boutique get the alterations done there, but for those who are internet savvy and want to save money, what are you going to do about alterations? Have you contacted anyone yet?
Are they capping the price?

I'm looking for a reputable yet affordable seamstress...any help???

In what area are you looking?? I ordered my dress from Commack wedding center but heard horrible things about the alterations so I am going to a seamstress that works from home. She lives in Franklin Square.

My SIL told me about a place in Deer Park off of Railroad Avenue. I think it's called Dina's Alterations (or Gina's??). She said they are a bunch of old italian ladies and they are really good. I'll probably go there.

I can tell you in a couple weeks if she is really good. She seems to know what she is doing, but of course there is no way to tell until I try the dress on again.

I asked around and a co-worker's mom works at a salon as a seamstress but told her she would be willing to do mine on the side. I only need a hem and bustle so I am really not to worried. I wouldn't take to anyone who didn't have bridal experience. This woman has been doing it for over 20 years.

Tell people what you need and you never know what will pop up!

BTW- I live in CA.

Can you all FM me details on the women who did your alterations? I bought my dress about an hour away from where i live and it's just too far to keep going back for alterations. I would like to find something closer to home. Any info would be great.

I used a woman in Islip Terrace who was referred to my by another LIW bride... not only were her prices unbeatable, but she had my dress 4 whole days and did my bustle and alterations!!! She also did my gma's dress during that same time period.
