I recently purchased some ultrasound doppler stethoscopes...they are technically used to detect bloodflow in people that have vascular disease/poor pulses...but they are essentially the same machine used to hear fetal heartbeats. I don't know if I am going to be re selling them, or looking into renting them (much below what the rental companies charge)...but since I am not pregnant, I am looking for someone who is over 16 weeks that would like to try a doppler for a month or so, so I can get an honest, non biased review before I sell or rent it. If you are interested, and live somewhere close to West Hempstead, please FM me. Thanks! (this is the type with stethoscope headphones....you need to be wearing them to hear the heartbeat, and need to use gel, which I think you need to use with all of the fetal dopplers.
Don't know if you've done any research on this, but I recently read an article in a medical journal that said there is a increased level of risk to the baby if a Mom-to-Be uses these types of machines TOO often in her pregnancy. You might want to look into it more, so that you can counsel your potential clients on proper/limited use.

They use these types of machines in most Emergency rooms, what journal did you read this in a wha type of risk did they say it could be linked too? I was in the ER last night and they used this on me, it is an older machine that doesn't have the accuracy and clarity of the newer ones, but I doubt there is any risk, they would have to take them off the market if they even 'suspect' harm to a fetus, if not there would be MANY lawsuits.

Re: Over 16 weeks - want to try a doppler?
my cousin is a pediatric nurse who is very close with her OB and the nurses in his office - they actually recommended she take the hospital doppler home bc she was such a nervous wreck wanting to come in every week for a heartbeat check. I asked her today after reading your email and she called her ob, he told her that there was no increased risk whatsoever! Maybe he is not up on the latest research - or the internet article was not accurate, who knows! I wound up selling it on eBay for $200 when i didn't get any responses anyway, but thanks for responding!

also, I'd be very interested to read the article, I initially thought you said you read that on line. Which journal was it in, thanks!

same here! Maybe the the article was mis-read or mis-quoted, I also just got off the phone with my SIL who is a pediatric ER nurse practitioner and she also said that they are still widely used. Glad you sold it JPSGIRL, it will make some anxious mommy-to-be calmer.

actually, it was purchased by someone opening his own medical practice - although there was a mommy to be bidding on it. We'll see who buys the next one, I have a few to sell. Thanks!
