Well FH's birthday is in two weeks and since we are saving for the wedding we decided not to get each other birthday or christmas gifts this year. We will just go out to dinner or something like that instead. He works for the FDNY and on his off days he works construction. He will be working most saturday's in the coming months so I though it would be nice if we went somewhere overnight for his birthday. His birthday falls on a Saturday so I thought we could go somewhere Thurs-Fri but I am having a hard time finding somewhere that is close enough to drive to for an overnight stay. I dont want to drive too far since we will only be going overnight. We have been to AC so many times that I wanted something different........Does anybody have any ideas?
All we really want to do is relax and go out to a nice dinner.

Re: Overnight getaway.......
Its the north forks equivalent to Montauk. Where are you from? From manhattan I'd say it probably takes 2 1/2 - 3 hours

If you stay in Sag you must stay @ The American
Bon, I love the east end
FH's b-day is actually a week from today and we're going up to Lake George for a long weekend. We went in July and had a good time. We both wanted to get in to hiking, and we took an 8 mile steep hike as of first venture, bad move, so we rented a boat for the remainder of the time we were there...
It's so peacful, and there are a few restaurants there as well. Try Sagamore...

I'm not quite sure how far you want to go but there's a B&B in Massachusetts called the Red Lion Inn. FH took me there overnight for my bday last year. Its in a nice quaint little town with cute little shops and it has a few restaurants and have live entertainment. really worth the ride!

A friend was telling me yesterday about Dansford On The Sound in Port Jefferson. She said it would be a great place for FH and I to get away, but not have to drive far. www.dansfords.com

Re: Overnight getaway.......
My FH and and I went to Southampton last year overnight and stayed in a B and B. It was called the Mainstay Inn. The room we got had a fire place and a claw foot tub...it was great for this time of year cause it was great to walk around and we went apple picking and to vinyard for wine tasting. It was really great. Mind you it's not a typical B and B with a sweet old lady running it...but it was fun:)

Re: Overnight getaway.......
I'm a big Montauk fan, however, the North Fork is also beautiful and has all of the wineries. There should also be some good apple picking now.

Orient Point is about 1:45mins from GW Birdge. Perfect time now because summer is over.

OMG! No don't go to Danford's! I've lived in Port Jeff my entire life and the place isn;t as great as people say. You have to pay for parking (expensive) and the food there is garbage. I went for dinner with a large group and EVERYONE had to send their food back.

Re: Overnight getaway.......
Greenport is perfect, perfect! The Northfork has all the wineries out there. You try like 5 or 6 wines for 5 dollars. You can pack your own small cooler with cheese and celery ,stuff like that and sit out on any one of their decks to drink a bottle of wine you find you like during the tasting. My FH and I stay at a B&B called The Bartlett House in Greenport. It's only $150 a night and GORGEOUS! There is a really good restaurant called The Fifth Season about a mile away from the B&B. The weather is supposed to be nice this week too.

Re: Overnight getaway.......
go to orient point and hop on the ferry to conn...u can put your car right on the ferry and head over to mohegan sun...its my fav thing to do...u will probably get a decent deal on a room for a thurs night...it is expensive regardless but well worth it...the ferry doesnt cost much at all...if forget the exact price but i want to say between 30-40 bucks...
