i got the contract today for my band, and they charge $1,110.00 per 'half hour of overtime or part thereof'. wow! is this the norm? i am nervous that we are going to go 5 minutes over and they are going to charge us an arm and a leg! part of me was hoping that we could ask the band to stay overtime if everyone was having a good time, but i guess that's going to be impossible now!
has anyone ever negotiated overtime charges beforehand and maybe gotten a better deal? i don't want to sign my contract until i know that this is how it's usually done...
thanks, everyone!

They will stop when they want to unless you pay them for extra time. I don't see how they could go 5 minutes over. They can just stop playing when time is up...

My band contract charges $750 for 1/2 hr overtime......if the party is going so well that I want that extra half hour, I will be willing to pay it. I didn't think of negotiating...but maybe other people have?

i totally agree. i wouldn't be willing to pay that much, but it would really stink if everyone was having a good time and it had to end! i'm hoping that the fee will be negotiable. if not, i may be back to the drawing board with bands...

they probably have to put that in their contract so that people dont' just expect them to stay until the party is over. if you're having an afternoon wedding, then they might have somewhere else to go after your wedding, and it wouldn't be fair to make them late! It's normal for them to charge you extra for overtime, and it probably depends on how much the band itself costs to perform, and how many members are in the band. I forgot how much my band's overtime charge was.....we didn't go over
