Own the rights with Duet?

Own the rights with Duet?

Do you own the proofs or do they all have Duet splashed across them? I only met with one photographer so far and I never even heard of this until they explained it to me. I've heard such great things about Duet so I was curious about their proofs.

I am not quite sure... on the contract it says they have the rights, but every communication i have gotten from them outside of that says we own the rights

Typically its bound by whats in the contract though, but they have said in writing several times to us that we own the rights, so its a toss up

My understanding is this: they can use the pictures however they want. They can blow up copies to hang in their office, feature your photos on their website, etc. But you own the printing rights to your photos so you don't have to order prints through Duet if you don't want to. I could be wrong, but that's what I've always understood.

you own the proofs. their name is not on the proofs at all.

Yup, the photos are yours. With the e-pics, the online views of the proofs had the Duet mark on them. We asked for a CD of the images without the Duet mark and they made up the CD with the high resolution images WITHOUT the Duet mark on them and we printed all of our own prints from Kodak Gallery.

They said they handle the wedding photos the same way. You don't have to order prints or albums from them. You will get the images without the DUET mark on CD and be able to do what you want with them.

Thanks girls, that helps a lot. I really like their work and hear great things about them so that makes me so happy!
