P90X

P90X

So, my fiance and I got P90X, and we're going to start soon...however, before we get started...I was hoping for some advice.

I just noticed that a few girls on here were doing it (alone or with their fiances) a few months ago...how did it go/is it going?

I want to try to set us up for success before we begin. I want to make sure we have a great schedule and plan set up. It comes with a very helpul looking nutrition guide. However, this does involve mainly lean protein and very little carbs (at least for like..the first month) - including fruits and veggies. I was wondering if you guys followed the nutrition program or did your own thing.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, and if there's any other specifics you care to share, don't hesitate to fm me! I'll be so thankful!

Again, thanks so much!! :)

Re: P90X

I was very hesistant with using P90X b/c I like going to the gym and I never thought video workouts would actually work. But I've been doing it since December and this has helped me shed the weight that i've been having such a hard time losing.

i didnt follow their guide - i just felt like doing any videos I was in the mood for. My suggestion is be consistent with the workouts but the more important thing is eating in moderation and cutting out the fat.

My sister and my in-laws completed P90x. I will say that my sister had far more success because she followed the nutrition plan. My in laws did not follow it and therefore were not as successful. Nutrition is the more important component in weight loss...90% nutrition, 10% exercise. My motto is if you are going to do it, do it right. Or as DH says, go big or go home! lol

Re: P90X

FH and I have been doing P90X for a few months. We did it hardcore the first month, all the exercise videos in their order not skipping any days. But after a few weeks, I was literally so sore and tired that we started doing them every other day. FH lost 12 lbs the first month and I lost 4 (I only want to lose 5, but FH has more to lose so I am really doing it for him). But he stuck to the nutrition plan way more than I did. I did use their menu as a guideline, but if I wanted a slice for lunch I still had it. So if you are really looking to be successful, I say stick with the nutrition plan! And if you really need to take a break mid-week, do it. Its so much better to rest your body than to push it and hurt yourself. HTH!

Re: P90X

Thanks so much for the help!!

I don't know where my will power went. In the summer of 2007, I was in the best shape of my life...working 4-5 shifts a week at Curves, speed-walking, and eating mainly fruit, salads, steamed shrimp and broccoli, egg white omelettes, etc. I drank lots of water, had some crystal light- barely any diet soda. I felt clean, fit, energetic, and wonderful, and I looked like an athlete for the only time in my life. It was great. After I started teaching and now especially since I've moved in with my fiance, it's like my will power is gone. We went to Vegas that summer, and I had two alcoholic drinks and sushi one night. Other than that, it was salads, fruit, omelettes...and I enjoyed myself perfectly fine! I'd be content eating all those foods if I lived alone...just being stressed out, not working at Curves but being a teacher working on my master's instead, being around at the apartment with him with the crap that he needs to keep around (cookies, etc...), my will-power has gotten so horrible.

Also, important to note is that when I gained my first 7 or 8 pounds, I took it off by doing a fairly low-carb diet. I was eating a lot of lean protein, Greek yogurt, salads, not much fruit (I ate a ton of apples to fill me up when I was thin)...I felt great doing that diet...but after I had a light dessert for a holiday (I think it was like...WW yogurt combined with cool whip free, etc.), my carb cravings crept back up....so since then, I crave all my go-to foods that I used to satisfy my budget, hunger, and taste as best as I could for each separate eating plan (WW points versus low carb/low calorie)..so I basically now crave just about everything! It's like my body says...oh you should have more fruit- no, you should have more Greek yogurt, etc... it wouldn't be as hard if I were alone in the apartment...

Maybe I'm obsessive..but I really miss my active, healthy lifestyle and the way I felt when my body was in that shape...a lot of times, I wish I was a fitness instructor or something...I loved when I was working there (Curves) more and was in such great shape...I was really great at motivating the women (when you're at your best, it tends to help)

So now that I've rambled, I'm just hoping I can follow the P90X diet plan and use it to ditch my cravings and bad habits and hopefully to convince FH to ditch his bad habits and junk food, too...I'd like to follow it as exactly as we can...I've heard of so many people having so much success with it...if anyone has any more advice on the subject, I'd be so happy to hear it!

Thanks so much again!! :)

Oh, by the way, if you or a friend has completed it, what do you do to maintain? (workout and diet-wise)

Re: P90X

im not doing P90X, but i am doing insanity (im not following their nutrition guide.) i believe they are from the same creaters.

your weight loss and toning comes mostly from your diet. So whether you chose to follow their nutrition guide or not, make sure you are eating healthy (6 meals a day, 3 big/3 small)

also, insanity and P90X are hard core. so take it easy the first few times!! i learned the hard way... i did it two days in a row (following the schedule) the third day and the 5 days that followed i couldnt walk!!!!! no joke. then the following week i did it one day, and again i couldnt walk for a week. so just take it easy, know your limits, and dont push yourself until your physically able to.

good luck!
