I've been doing a lot of research and trying to figure out what will best suit our needs. I want to avoid buying a bassinet simply because it will only be used for a couple of months. Has anyone bought one of those pack and plays with a bassinet and used it during the first couple months? I also see us traveling quite often since we don't live by family so it could also act as a portable crib. Anyone have insight on this or their experience to share?

Re: Pack and Play as a Bassinet?
We did buy a pack n play w/ a bassinet but ended up never using it for that purpose at home. It was very convenient for travel however the one we had just seemed so uncomfortable for every night use. We were fortunate enough to receive a regular bassinet as a hand-me-down.

Re: Pack and Play as a Bassinet?
Doreen, we used the pack-n-play bassinet for Paul for awhile and it was fine. But, our PnP had a FULL sized bassinet, not 1/2 or 3/4 size, so that made a difference in how long we could use it. He didn't outgrow it as fast.
But, I would only recommend using a PnP for travel if you're talking about traveling by CAR! Those darn things are HEAVY, and I cannot see your DH (or anyone's) lugging it around the airport - even if you plan to check it in with your baggage.

Thanks ladies. If only these kids came with an accessory kit you got at the hospital it would make my life much easier!

Re: Pack and Play as a Bassinet?
For the first 7 weeks we used a cradle that my FIL made. But we have a PNP and use it all the time for travel. DH's parents live about 2 hours from here so we usually stay over when we go and we always bring the PNP. DD seems to sleep fine in it. We also use one at My Mom's when we travel to LI. Its really is too much to take on a plane (especially since I travel alot alone with her). We ended up borrowing one from my cousin that we use at my Moms. DD sleeps fine in it there as well.

Re: Pack and Play as a Bassinet?
I have a bassinet and a P&Pw/1/2 bassinet. We use our P&P when we travel to MA for the weekends to see MIL. Now, at 4.5 months it is too small for Molly to sleep in anymore. It was perfectly fine until now so yes, you could use it without buying a bassinet too.
