Painting Furniture PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

Ok,
Hubby and I bought this armoire from Ikea last night. I like the price of it, style and shape. But in order for it to work in my living room I need to paint it black. What kind of paint should I use. It is wood, but has some kind of finish on it. Also, should I primer it? I am so clueless what to do here. Can anyone help me?

Your best bet would probably be to lightly sand it to get a better surface for the paint to grip to. Use a primer and then use the Rustoleum paint for interior surfaces. We painted a futon once and this is what worked best for us. At first the paint was going on very streaky, so we had to almost sponge paint on the first coat with the following coat being painted on. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Why would you use Rustoleum on it? I'm just learning about painting techniques so I'm curious. I thought Rustoleum was for surfaces that are metal or outdoors or in contact with water.
