hi everyone, i know this belongs on the home board but this one is more active.
i have 2 questions about paint:
1- should the ceiling:
a-match the walls b- be white c- be 2 shades lighter than the walls
2- what are some colors you used in your house? Benjamin moore pls

We went with white, though Oprah had a show doing other colors...Our living room is Benjamin Moore navajo white with white ceiling and white trim.

In my opinion the ceiling should be white. In our bedroom we did Linen White for the walls. It's avery nice color it's not stark white it's mellow with almost a yellow undertone very nice and neutral. And you can use alot of different accent colors with it that blend nicely.

IMO I'm big on bright white ceiling and bright white trim and yes, only Benjamin Moore. I've painted at least 15 rooms in the last 5 years (Dad's house needed to be completely redone and I did it during my summers off), Home Depot paint is not worth it because you often have to put on an extra coat more than Benjamin Moore.
Make sure you prime! The 1-2-3 prime is the best it hides all marks.
It's also VERY worthwhile to invest in good brushes. The cheap ones are horrible. Pay the extra money, clean them well, and use them again and again.

my aunt loves painting the ceilings a matching color. I think it makes the room look much more boxy and closed in.

We recently painted every room in our townhouse and only used Ben Moore paint. Also I have wanted to paint the ceiling something other then white since watching Nate on Oprah do it a few years ago. So in the living room I painted dorset gold on the walls and then concord ivory on the ceiling. It looks awesome and so many people comment on the ceiling being a color other then white. I am so happy I did it. I plan on using red accents with the goldish walls. Here are some pics. Also going to put crown moulding in after the wedding to separate the two colors. Then I also painted the upstairs bathroom ceiling the same color. It is called Caribbean coast. I absolutely love it. So happy I painted the ceiling. Gives it a different look. For the rooms with red walls we went with white ceilings. I think it definitely has to be a lighter color to paint the ceiling.

thanks - yea im so new to the paint thing. i went on the hgtv site and the people on there were freaking out on me b/c i wanted to paint the ceilings white.

I just went and got samples of Benjamin Moore paint today. I plan on doing the kitchen a shade of green, maybe cypress green and leave the ceiling white. Anyone have pics of any green rooms?
