PANIC!

PANIC!

Help! I just found out thru my FIL's that our church has NO PAPERWORK on us!! The person we originally talked to died about a week and a half after we met with him and they now have a new priest. My FIL's got back from church and left a message on our machine yesterday that we need to call the church. We only got the message at 11 o'clock last night and obviously couldn't call then. I'm having my FH call them since it's his Church but I'm really worried!!!

Can someone please tell me what kind of paperwork they're referring to???? Thanks

OK, let's not panic. Take it easy. Im not sure what kind of paperwork they are talking about, but call the church and find out. It's the only way your going to know. Im sure they will more than happy to accomodate to whatever needs you had expressed to the dearly departed. Just make sure for your own peace of mind whatever 'paperwork' is made, to get a copy of it. Hope everything works out!!!

Re: PANIC!

It depends - If you're getting married in a Catholic Church you would have sat with a priest and filled out a whole long worksheet with the priest asking questions. did you do this? If yes then the paperwork they may be referring to is proof of your baptism and confirmation, which you can easily get by contacting the church you were baptised at, they have all of your records and will send you a new copy which you need to give to the priest anyway.

If you didn't sit with the priest and fill out those pages I would suggest you make an appt to do so.

Good luck!

Re: PANIC!

I hear horror stories like this all the time whether it be, church, reception hall, musicians, photographers, you name it...

I keep a paper trail with everyone (I actually communicate via email with my pastor, something which I find pretty amusing) and check in every few months so they remember I exist. Keep in mind, although this is our special day that we are consumed with day in and day out, we are one of MANY people vendors have to deal with. It's very easy to misplace something, that is why I keep a folder with copies of everything, I even document conversations so I remember myself who I asked what.

You have plenty of time to resolve the mix-up, keep us posted and hang in there!

Re: PANIC!

If it is a Catholic church it could be a couple of things. When you first meet with the priest they take down ALL of your info. If one of you is not Catholic they have to petition to have an interfaith ceremony to the arhdiocese or something. If you are a member of the church it could be your confirmation/communion paperwork. You should probably check on these things.

Re: PANIC!

Thanks everyone! You made me feel much better!! Here's the update. When we spoke w/ the priest it was Sept. of 2002 and we weren't getting Married until May 2004. The priest at the time asked us some questions and then that was about it- no long worksheet of questions or anything like that. He had just told us to call back in December of 2003- which I did (he had died by that point). I TOLD THEM That our date was 5/15/04 and they said ok (NEVER actually confirmed I guess).
I called my parish and they are sending out a 'letter of consent' saying that I can marry outside my parish and then I also asked them for either a copy of my confirmation certificate or a letter stating that I was confirmed at their parish and the date. I also called the church that I was baptised in and have to send them a SASE and a letter explaining what I want.... Hopefully it'll all work out!!!
