Panic Attacks

Panic Attacks

with 26 days left, i am getting very anxious. i know this is normal. however, i am losing sleep & i'm being told i look sad. i don't want to look that way cos i AM happy. also, i have to deal with my Dad who is having some health issues. my parents don't speak english well & don't drive. so they rely on me to take them around shopping & to doctor's appointments. i don't really have anytime to get much done. i have touched base with most of my vendors.i just send an email to my makeup artist. waiting to hear back from her. then just have to finalize some other things. i feel like i can't even make plans with friends cos i have no time.

So, i am considering going to the doctor's and getting a prescription for something..maybe xanax. however, i've been told to try to avoid it.. makes you sleepy and can be habit forming.

i don't know what to do, if i should just try to handle it on my own or just try out the meds...

any suggestions

I too have bad anxiety (always not just cause of the wedding) and I now swear by Valerian Root. Its an herbal supplement that was used in the 50's as anxiety medication before the medical community started getting away from herbs.. It stinks and tastes something awful but one little 'happy pill' as i call them, makes be as calm and relaxed as can be. Its not habit forming either and if you use them as a sleep aid you wont be groggy. I found them at walmart, or you can try any vitamin store. They suggest you take 3 at a time on the bottle, but i think it would fall on my face.. if you try it start with one and see if you need more. HTH

I always feel that meds should be the last resort. There are some natural remedies for panic attacks. You should go to a vitamin store and ask them about it. Theres aromatherapy for this too, and yoga is also recommended. HTH! Everything is going to be ok

Try to the natural way first -- running is a great stress reliever. Make some quiet time for yourself where you can sit in a tub and relax. I also sing at the top of my lungs or dance my butt off to my favorite itunes songs -- i always feel better after.

Sometimes all of the above is not enough --I hate the idea of popping pills but sometimes we need a little something to get us through. There are a lot of people out there on Xanax -- I don't think it's anything anyone should be ashamed of.I took it once for about 2 weeks (following a traumatic experience) and it was wonderful. I felt so calm and relaxed. But I stopped because I didn't want to get hooked.
There's also a very low dosage available.

I use valerian root when I'm anxious and panicky. It works it really does.

you may want to consider hiring a Day of Coordinator...that way they can take care of all the wedding-related things and you can focus solely on yourself and your parents.

Re: Panic Attacks

i have a prescription for xanax but i rarely take it - only if i really really need it.....it helps - especially when im freaking out and cant fall asleep - sometimes i feel like i drank 100 cups of coffee and my heart is pounding so hard i can hear it in my ears (even though it isnt) and i cant sleep - i end up pacing in my hallway and i feel like i dont know what to do with myself - so thats usually the only time i take it - then ill fall asleep within a half hour....im not a believer in meds and im afraid of becoming addicted to it so thats why i save it for last resort only

Re: Panic Attacks

Thanks everyone!

i think i am going to get a prescription but take it when i only truly need it. i just hate that people think i am depressed which i am not.. to be blunt, i am just tired of the planning & the BS. it was fun in the beginning but now its just getting tiresome. don't get me wrong i can't wait for my wedding day & to start my new life with FH. tired of all of the running around & putting my life on hold

thanks again
