Anyone get them? Any advice. I have been getting them for like the last two weeks, mostly when I first wake up.

Re: Panic Attacks
I suffer from terrible anxiety and often get panic attacks. Something that has helped me is saying to myself 'This is just anxiety...nothing more.' and I try to repeat to myself 'Don't let it win' or something like that and it helps.
Deep breathing helps and then sometimes just throwing myself into something else will take my mind of the anxiety. hang in there!

I actually read this tip online just a little bit ago..I'll try it. I wake up eveyday at like 6:00am in a panic and then I feel like I am going to vomit and then I spend like 15 mins in the bathroom gagging/vomiting. Today my chest feels tight.
I hate this. I feel like I am losing it. I am scared.

Great advice, I just want to add too it. I have pretty bad anxiety in the a.m. when I first wake up and it helps me to repeat every night before I go to bed- 'I will wake up peaceful and calm' over and over again.

Effexor and Zanax.
Oh, and FH's hugs. lol. No seriously, I've suffered with this since high school and I think a lot of it has toned down because of FH his way of understanding everything.
Sometimes, my chest will hurt, or breathing becomes erratic, my ipod kinda helps a little too. You have to find a positive focus to steer away from the attack.

Oh geez, I was hoping you wouldnt say something like this..LOL....I was on Effexor for 7 years for depression, I had a f'kd up first marriage. For many years I was on a crazy high dosage of this ****, and it took me two years to wean myself off...I have been free of it since Oct....I was doing great...I wasnt feeling depressed or anxious or anyting. All of a sudden, Ihave like two months to this wedding and I am falling apart.
I am afraid to see a dr...I dont want to go back on any drugs.

Re: Panic Attacks
I have been getting them for a few years and have learned to control them withouthaving to take medication often. i was on xanax for a while on a regular basis but now i only take it if i really need to which isnt very often.
It takes alot to control them but you can do it. Like MrsDrinkh20 said deep breathing def helps and reapting a certain phrase to yourself helps also

Re: Panic Attacks
Has anyone tried GABA? (natural remedy).I bought some today, my coworker suggested it. I thought it made me feel better for about a half hour...I could breathe without my chest feeling all tight...but it probably was just my imagination.
I am going to try the deep breathing and positive thought....it is hard to deep breathe when you feel like you are about to vomit...LOL

Re: Panic Attacks
I've had panick attacks so bad to the point where my arms and legs are so heavy, I can't move them.
To calm me down when I feel one coming on, I take deep breaths, tell myself I'm not dying, it's just a panic attack and it's not necessary. I tell myself to not let it get to me and to calm down.
I also either call my mother or FH because just the sound of their voice calms me down. A hug also works wonders!

yikes I didn't mean to scare you. actually, i started effexor last year, i had tried other things that didn't work and this one actually makes me feel great, while also not making me eat everything in sight. the zanax i take when needed. doc will write for 30 pills and i can make them last 5 months or so.
i do have to wean off of it myself, since FH & I will eventually try for kids soon and I cannot be on anything. but like i said, finding a positive something and driving every ounce of focus into it helps. a video game, a tv show (an educational one, animal planet, etc), cooking (that's my vice, cooking actually relaxes me), and finding the right breathing exercises will help.

Honestly, this happened to me too...the Dr. put me on Prozac and Xanax...I don't know if you're only feeling anxious, but if you are, honestly the Xanax REALLY works for me and I don't have any side effects from it...I have become a little dependent in that its hard for me to sleep well unless I take it, but mostly I am only taking .5mg before I go to bed (which isn't a lot). If you're depressed as well, the Prozac has helped me but it has some side-effects...they are probably on the mild side since really all of those pills come with side effects...for the first month or two I took it I was VERY manic, always had to be jiggling my leg or tapping my finger or something and I talked really fast...I was really fatigued for a while (although i'm thinking that was wedding stress since I'm better now) and my sex drive dropped (but if I force myself to start up with DH then we're all good)
FM me if you have any questions...but I really do recommend the Xanax

I had the same sorts of symptoms...I thought iw as dying. Once I could admit that it was anxiety it wasnt nearly as scary. The more frightened you get th emore anxious you will become. Try to breath and remember that anxiety can do crazy things to your body
As for medicaton, I was on lexapro for 3 years. It helped me get through a very difficult time in my life. I have now been off of it for 2 and still have anxiety but have been able to manage it much better.
Have you thought about seeing a therapist?

Re: Panic Attacks
When I first had panic attacks, my DR put me on Paxil. I was stupid and just quit taking them instead of weaning myself off. I didn't want to end up depending on medication. It was stupid of me because it really did make me feel better all around and less anxious and paranoid about everything. Plus, it's dangerous to just stop medication like that.
After the wedding, when I will finally have insurance again, I'm going to see a therapist for my anxiety issues.
I also tend to get them late at night, after a very stressful day. I noticed that my body releases all of my stress and nervous energy through panic attacks.

Re: Panic Attacks
JHines...no you didnt scare me...just ironic that you mentioned effexor..I have a word of advice for you....although i am really happy for you that effexor is helping you...be careful of it and if you can get off of it ..do it!! That crap is addicting! And yes... I gained about 15 lbs from it that was very hard to lose...I only lost it recently and I think its because I am stressed.
Ladies, quite honestly, I am afraid to go to a therapist because I am afraid they will push meds on me and I feel like I am taking a step backwards casue of my experience with the effexor and how long I was on then. I am probably being stupid cause if I need it I need it. But I want to see if I can beat this myself. I am hoping this is just temporary and once the wedding is over..I will be better.
I just have too much crap going on...7 weeks till the wedding, a 19 year old with attitude at home for 3 more weeks until school starts....relocating to LI in November...so I will need to find a new job...packing up my apt....and invite 'issues' with this wedding. I am just overwhelmed.

Honestly, sometimes you just need some help...I think that you should go to the therapist and if they tell you that you need something right now, then I'd go for it...you can reevaluate how you're doing when everything settles down. All this stuff stirred up for me in the middle of wedding planning and now that I'm back from the honeymoon and everything is over I'm really seeing how I'm gonna feel and if I don't think I need the meds anymore then I'm gonna try and wean off them.
Like I said...if you want to talk to someone who can relate, FM me
