WHEN did weddings become a mostly cash thing? ALmost every vendor wants most if not all payment by cash/check(same as cash to me). I literally just broke down in a panic attack. I thought whatever we couldn't cover, we would charge and pay off but nope. And my parents (who are giving us a bit of help but no where near the kind we need) added more ppl to the guest list that HAVE to be invited. I barely have friends on this list. I'm so done and over it all :( :(

Or was it always a cash thing and I just had no clue?

Not that I've gotten married before but I was always under the impression that most vendors would want cash. Reason being that for most couples, the budget is tight, especially near the end. So they want guaranteed money, not a check that might bounce, etc.
I agree it is stressful though thinking about handing out of all of those dollars!

Cash is king, and usually you can negotiate for 'tax included' if you pay in cash which can be a big savings

Yeah, everything is pretty much cash or check. Our venue was the only place that said we could put the first few payments on our credit card.

:/ I had no idea that was the thing.. I reallllly wish this was something bridal magazines or whatever told us. I figured cash was best for savings on vendors but didn't know it was mostly end all be all. I don't know what to do now :(

Can you also explain to your parents your concerns, and maybe ask them to cover the extra people they added on? When we went over our ideal guest list number, we told our parents, if they wanted to add anymore people they would have to cover it themselves. They were perfectly fine with that too, so it doesn't hurt to voice your concerns, or even be a little firm. Its your wedding, you should have the ppl you want there, not just your parents friends.

I'm sorry to hear this. If you have money that is liquid (savings, municipal bonds, not 401K) you may be able to tap into that. Although I am not an advocate for loans to pay for a wedding, this may be your only option besides the 'rents.

Re: PANIC MODE- CASH??? (Rant mode)
FH and I (along with some help from the 'rents) are able to cover a fair amount of the wedding, but we are still going to be about $7K shy by the wedding day in Feb. So, we're going to NEFCU (credit union) and taking out a loan - to be paid off in full with gifts from our wedding guests - FIRST THING after we return from our honeymoon. Back in 'the day' the $$ given by guests could go to a house downpayment, etc, but thats just not realistic for a lot of couples anymore. Any $$ left over after the loan is paid off is going to our credit card balances. Less debt=better mortgage rates. Its not the same as a downpayment, but hey, these are the times we live in.

That's usually the case. Too much fraud when it comes to CC payments to vendors don't want to lose their money.

I'm so sad that this is the case for us but feel better knowing I'm not alone!! Unfortunately my parents are in no financial position to help- I don't know how they are even doing what they are to be honest and I felt like **** that as my father started getting huffy puffy and I reached breaking point- I mentioned the need for more $$ if there will be more people. He just doesn't understand ANYTHING! Especially when it comes to what things cost. We took out a loan to pay for our renovations on his moms home so we have an apartment to live together and took out xtra to pay for the reamining of the wedding... only thing was my fiance never actually calculated everything. He only ASSUMED and now the price we were quoted for renovations is different and other things that had to be done we are going to be at 0. Went to the bank to find out what we can do and they recommended a Line of Credit but we are both nervous about it and honestly just CAN'T survive the next few months having to pay this all. Soooo trying to figure out what to do. it seems if we take this out- by the end of this year we SHOULD be okay with the extra bills but right now we wouldn't be. We can't push this back and we can't switch venues. If only we could pay by credit we could do this all..

If you pay cash, you would save on the tax with some vendors. It depends on who you use. I'm using patken for photo and video & they take credit cards. Maybe you should search for vendors that will take credit cards. Good luck! I know it's stressful, but I'm sure it will all work out.

I would speak to the venue and see if you can work out that you can use your credit card and maybe they will let you do it now being you have so much time until your wedding. I know my limo company called yesterday to discuss final payment and said I can give them cc# up until 30 days before and then I would have to pay cash. So maybe you can get that option too.

I have found this to be true also... our venue allowed us to make our down payment on a credit card but all payments after that are check or money order... Since we didn't want to have to take out a loan (which we would have to since we are paying for the wedding ourselves) we moved into my moms basement to save $$, and as it gets closer if we don't have quite enough I plan to tap into my 401K for the last couple thousand (worse case scenario).
I would definitely speak to the venue and explain your situation maybe they will work with you? Its very stressful, I feel your pain as I'm sure a lot of the other girls on here do!

I didn't notice that any place required us to pay cash. We're paying cash for everything except for a few thousand for the hall because most places offered no tax if you pay cash.

I was under the impression everything was in cash but my mom has actually been helping me with some deposits (florist, limos) and has been using her Southwest credit card to rack up the travel points. I have a feeling its like cash for wedding/event only people, but someone like a florist who is dealing with many customers accepts credit cards. So my advice is ask EVERY vendor their policy, and the ones that take CC--well that's what they will get!! Try to get a cc with rewards too-- maybe pay for your honeymoon flight, for example, and save some $$ there!
