I don't remember where I saw this, probably here, just like everything else.
I want to copy sheet music (our first dance song) and make cones to hold the petals for the throw.
Has anyone done this? What is the best size / shape paper to use ?

I think that Sonicstef made these for her petal toss. But, I've also seen them in Martha Stewart. I think Martha uses small round doilies to make the cones.

Teri did this so she could explain better for sheet music.
I used paper doiley cut in quarters so in my case I needed pieces in the shape of big 'pie slices'. I rolled and used a piece of double sides tape to keep together.

This sounds great. Can you use it to old birdseed as well or will it all fall out?

Stef
Did you stand them up? Did petals fall out? I was thinking of getting wooden wine crates, cutting them down, and staining them navy. then filling them with florists green stuff to hold them in place, and putting the cones standing up in that.
What do you think?

Did you but sheet music, with notes on it? or just plain? Are you copying actual music onto it?

Mine have rose petals on it, but they did have preprinted music on it. The paper is already decorated. I didnt realize you were adding your own decor.

I would like to use the sheet music for some songs from the wedding - esp the first dance

Re: paper cones to hold petals for the throw
The shape was a perfect square and the paper has to be thin not thin, I noticed the thicknes let the cone keep its shape. I made the cones already. The petals do stay in. Give Michaels Craft a try, they have so many different craft items

The crates are a great idea! I coudnt find anything that looks all that great so I used my coordinators basket since she had one handy.
Here is the basket with the petals andcones:

Re: paper cones to hold petals for the throw
Thanks Stef
The doilies are really pretty, but I am hooked on the sheet music (I don't know why) and I am going to try them first. I looked at Teri's thread about pictures, and she left the sheets long. I might not have to cut them at all - just make them long and narrow. I just thought short, and wide would be easier to fill, and throw.
I FM Teri to see what she did

Dubliner..I am using sheet music. I haven't made them yet but the plan is to make copies at Kinko's, cut them and fold. I have a basket like stef's to hold them. Hope that helps.

I really love the look of the doilies, and will make mine like Stef's
I wonder, do doilies come in different colors?

Just a note to all ladies, remember to check with your temple, church or wherever you are getting married that it is ok to do the petal toss. I love the pix with the petal toss.
I think the sheet music idea is so cool

Re: paper cones to hold petals for the throw
I'm not a huge fan of doilies, so I used sheet music from the song I walked down the isle to.
I posted a pic after the wedding so you can search if you'd like. I just placed the cones in a basket, and then one of my groomsmen handed them out at the end of the receiving line.

Re: paper cones to hold petals for the throw
Dub: I think sheet music is a great idea. I would have done it myself but the work involved to get the cones small (which is my preference since large cones mean more petals) was too much for me to bother with. The doilies were very easy and cheap so thats what made it a winner for me.
I think doilies come in other colors but the white ones are sooo cheap and easily found at the 99 cents store I stuck with those. Plus the red petals inside looked prettier against the white paper.

Stef - Those are beautiful! I hope you don't mind if I steal your idea. And the 99cent store; that's just my price!

Re: paper cones to hold petals for the throw
another thing to remember is when you make the cones, make sure the opening is only about 2 - 2 1/2 inches or so - otherwise, if the opening is too small, it would be hard to get the petals out, and too big would be a waste of expensive petals!
