Paper weight...

Paper weight...

Ok so I get that the bigger the number the thicker the paper but if I'm ordering something online how do I know what I'm getting???

I'm looking for the card stock and paper to DIY my Programs....

Is 80lb paper thick or do I need something thicker? I want to basically have a folder and then a printed sheet inside but I want the outside folder to be pretty substantial...

Re: Paper weight...

80 lb is a nice thick weight. I use this weight to make cards (which has been a while).

I think it'll be perfect for the outside. Not flimsy AT ALL!!!! . This is probably what I will use to do all of my stuff..... If you're folding, you will def need a bone folder (or a scorer) to make it nice and clean....

I think I can get the paper pre-folded from paper presentations in the city (I HOPE)... if not... where can I find me a bone folder???

I actually prefer a scorer, but bone folders are everywhere (ac moore, michaels, i'm sure)...

Are you going to have to cut anything? If so, then just get yourself a paper cutter (not the arm kind, the slide kind....) and then get a scorer with it. That's easier. I used to get all my stuff from Stampin' Up! (paper too). but the tools are pretty universally everywhere now.... I just like the quality of their paper (which is 80lb)!!! and their colors...

Re: Paper weight...

no problem, date twin (hopefully!!).

let me know if you need more help. I actually was a Stampin' Up! rep for a while, so I know a lot about paper and ink, etc....

What are you going to be printing with?? it might be hard to print on pre-folded paper, and different printers are easier to use depending on paper weight too!!!!

Re: Paper weight...

I planned on bribing someone in our graphics department at work to print them for me once I get the format down... I think I want to print on a lighter weight paper and then use some kind of adhesive to attach it to the inside fold of the thicker card stock (stop me if I'm not making any sense) and then tie a ribbon around the outside to make it look all pretty....

ETA: Oct 2nd is a popular date!!! I think there are like 10 or so of us!!

Re: Paper weight...

Oh okay. That sounds good to have someone print it for you!!! I am a do-it-at-home with whatever I can and I know I have had trouble with my monochrome laser printer on certain paper textures (the smooth ones work the best) and I have also had trouble with the thicker paper going through my inkjet, but if you can have someone who knows, then that's much better. Maybe ask them about weight for printing purposes. OR get a sheet of that prefolded stuff and bring it in just to try it out before you spend the time on the headache of it all... Are you going to have the front be blank or adhere something to that too? That's a really good idea actually... hmmmmm...

Do you know what adhesive you'll be using? I swear by one (and have run out!!! Need to place an order soon!) Michaels and AC moore definitely have this, though. it's called Tombo Mono adhesive and it's usually blue (the green one is not permanent and like a weak post-it). Stampin' Up!'s are all black though.... (and they call it SNAIL... forget why the acronym)...

I would love it if I could stick to 10/2. That's my hope. I think we've only found one place with it open so far and I think we like it the best anyway, so..... I updated my profile, but we'll see...
