So I was talking with our wedding planner about our invitation budget recently and she suggested we do paperless RSVP's. So people would either have to RSVP on our website or through email. She said it's a great way to save money and its very 'green'
What do you guys think about this? I love the idea of saving money and the less we have to deal with the post office the better after our STD debacle... but do you think its tacky?

I don't think its possible to have everyone do online RSVP. There are people that are not computer literate and also the older generation. Maybe you can do regular rsvps for certain people and online for others.

Someone that I work with did this and I really just thought that it was cheap IMO...I know you are trying to save money, but I feel like its less than $100 and you can cut corners somewhere else.

I am not sure it's practical with older folks, though I don't hate the idea. Maybe make your own to cut costs? I personally think they can be very simple postcards, and don't have to be as fancy as the rest of the stationary. People are only going to see them for a short time anyway.

I think you can do it - but keep in mind grandma and grandpa might be slightly frustrated.
I am a woman all about thinking outside of the box and thinking outside tradition.
Send me an FM and maybe I can help you think of some more budget friendly ideas?

it's not something I would do, but it's not a bad idea either. I am really looking forward to receiving mail every day, since most things lately are electronic.

Hey everyone! Thanks so much for your advice. My grandparents actually email so thats not so much an issue actually haha! I still have some time so I'm going to think about it more. If it saves $300 i might wind up doing it but if its less then perhaps not. bah i don't know!

So long as you're flexible (willing to accept replies by both email and phone ), I think it's a fantastic idea. FH and I went to a wedding last night that had a line on the invitation that said 'to rsvp, email [theirweddingemail]@gmail.com.' All 200+ people at the wedding figured it out. If you have older people who might not be as proficient with email, you could also include a phone number -- even a dedicated google voice number just for rsvps.
this exactly

I agree with this

We did paperless STD's through punchbowl.com. This saves between $30-100 dollars, and you can use that money towards the wedding invitations.

FH really liked this idea, I'm still iffy on it, and I'm scared to even mention it to my mom bc I feel like she'll flip.
If its a big cost savings we may do what Sarah suggested and send the cards to like my moms family who will expect it, but do the e-rsvp for all the young folk.

Re: paperless RSVPS
We were invited to a wedding this summer and they did half and half. The younger generation got online RSVP's and the others got paper. My FMIL was also invited and she works on a computer all day and they sent her a paper one. So I don't even think they did onlines for people who they thought go onilne often.
So I think you can cut down on cost a little and do whichever way you feel suits the person that is getting the invite.

I think it's a great idea. We went to a wedding last year that did this.
I personally didn't do it bc I know of alot of people we are inviting that are not computer savvy. So how do they respond?
It's easier to forget to RSVP when there isn't a piece of paper that you have to fill out, IMO
