Parakeet Moulting Season????

My little parakeet has lost a bunch of feathers over the past two days .. I can't really recall it ever being this excessive in such a short span of time .. maybe I'm just forgetting .. but can anyone tell me .. is this normal moulting season for parakeets????

Also .. about how much is 1 ounce of bird seed??? I don't have anything to measure out 1 ounce .. can anyone give me an idea of how to measure out bird seed in ounces???

I had 2 parakeets and I remember that they moulted, but it wasn't a huge amount of feathers that they lost, and I don't remember if it was during a specific time that they moulted. Sorry :(

But I can at least answer your 1 oz question:

1 oz of birdseed = 2 Tbs.

I believe it is time for moulting. My parents have many cockatiels and they are losing a lot of feathers right now..my mom actually just mentioned it to me this weekend. I just took 2 of the cockatiels this weekend and boy are they messy - feathers everywhere.

not sure about the food thing. I never measured their food.

I have a small parrot and have noticed tons of tiny white down feathers everywhere!

I guess its that time!

Okay .. that makes me feel better to know that others have birds moulting at this time.

And the reason I asked about the food thing .. I usually don't measure out his food either .. but I've been adding a vitamin supplement to his food .. to help with skin and plummage .. which is 3 drops to 1 ounce of food .. so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't over-doing it .. and it seems like I've been fine.

our parakeet is losing more feathers too now....

i know in petco i think they have a bird treat seed that you can actually use durring molting too....

But my cat sheds all the time!!
