I see that a lot people are buying gifts for their parents which they then seem to give at the RD. I'm confused and just wanted to know why people give their parent's gifts.

Re: parent Gift Question
I'm doing it cause I like my parents. I'm givng my BMs gifts, my parents are doing even more than them. Just as small tokens of appreciation.

Re: parent Gift Question
I think it's for appreciation and for showing them how much their love and support means to you

Re: parent Gift Question
Is it that you tend to give gifts to the parents when they help pay for the wedding? Is that what you mean by appreciation? We are paying for this on our own and never thought to get them gifts.

Re: parent Gift Question
It's up to you. My parents have gone above and beyond what I might have expected them to - all 2 sets of families have. I can't speak to anyone else's situations though.

Re: parent Gift Question
Im giving my father cufflinks that say 'Father of the Bride' (which cost $100 but I got them for free)
Why?
Because Im his little girl. My wedding day is a big day for both of us. He's going to walk me down the aisle and lose his baby girl. I know and he knows I'll always be his, but as he said himself 'There's another man now who's more important' and he's ok with that. My father is great. For his patience, for his love of me, for his understanding and for letting me go I am giving him something to remind him.. He's always my Daddy and Father of the Bride.
My stepmonster, the wench of a woman. Im gonna find a hankie..something cheap. Probably off ebay can't stand the whore, but If I dont get her something she'll throw a fit.
BM are getting small tokens (Jewelry & robes probably) cause their paying for their dresses and I want them to look even in jewelry. If you want a look, then you should pay for it.. seems fair to me. The robes are as a thank you, for all they will have done for my wedding.
GM? We have no clue. Something small probably. cufflinks? Don't know yet.

Re: parent Gift Question
I think it expected if they pay, but if they help in any way, you know, emotioanl suport, trcakign down cousin lou's address, it's a nice idea. Or as Nadine said, b/c she likes them.
If they are more trouble than help & if things are strained, then I could see skipping it. We are getting ours parents albums & probabaly soemthign else, amybe dinner gift certificates. I don't know if we will give it to them at the rehearsal though. It doesn't need to be in front of people for us.

Re: parent Gift Question
oh and I should add.. Dad is getting his cufflinks from me after I am fully dressed and alone in the Bridal Suite (not including the photographer who I want to catch the moment of my father seeing me). After we meet for the first time all done up, I'll hand him his Cufflinks and help put them on him.. ON THE WEDDING DAY.
My mother's gift (the hankie), I'll probably have my sister (BM) give it to her while Im with my father, to keep her away.

Re: parent Gift Question
Oooohhhh...so I think I understand. My parents aren't in the picture so that's that but in the same respect my FH's parents haven't been too involved. Granted we have 18 months to go so if things change I'll have to consider getting something - I just feel weird getting them a gift for my wedding.
