Parent gift question

Parent gift question

Sooooo....FILs have not given us a cent towards the wedding. Neither have either of them seemed particularly excited about it. We don't really hear from them often, mostly FMIL will call to nag FH about something or other that he hasn't done yet for FSIL's wedding and to criticize him for the choices he's made in his life (passive aggressively, of course).

Do we have to get them gifts???? I really don't feel like rewarding this sort of behavior. We be getting my parents gifts, but I'd gift them in private and not at the RD if we weren't getting FILs any gifts. If its really effed up of us not to I'll **** it up and do it...just not really looking forward to it.

Hmm....how does FH feel about not giving his parents gifts? If your going to give your parents gifts i think i would give FH's parents a gift.

if not...then def give your gift to your parents in private..lol

I agree, but this is really up to you an fh to decide.

We got my parents personalized picture frames each for mother and father of the bride and will get them a gift card to Ruth Chris.
If FH ends up not contributing, which so far they havent, I will not be getting them a gift.

I know it's prob not what you want to hear, but I'd buy the gifts. They sound like they're damn if you do and damn if you don't kind of people, but at least you were the bigger person. It doesn't have to be anything big, but at least it might make FH happy since they're his parents.

I say just give them a framed pic of you guys (not a crazy frame, not engraved or anything like that) but just a token something for them to remember your wedding.... that's it, just don't make it fancy... At least you're acknowledging that they are the parents of the groom that way, but that's it....

I dont see why you would buy them a gift. If they havent done anything for the wedding...or even shown support...what would make them deserving a gift? Personally, I think it's an unnecessary expense. If they give you an extraordinary gift at the wedding...maybe send them something afterwards.

Just my opinion.

I don't think you have to. Im not getting FMIL anything. If FH wants to, that's fine, but I got and paid for (by myself) my parents' gifts.

I think despite their whole demeanor regarding the wedding, you dont want to go into the marriage with feelings of animosity brewing. Get them something small to appease them. It'll only be more awkward if they ever called you guys out on not getting them something. JMO :)

ita!!!!!!!! we all remember the drama my MIL put us threw, i refused to spend a penny on her. my parents were so supportive and really helped us out financially, so i made sure to get them a nice gift.

NO!....FH mom isn't giving us as penny meanwhile my parents are paying thousands and thousands. I am getting them a weekend at Moheghan Sun...she is getting nothing

Re: Parent gift question

I would say maybe just take the professional pics from your wedding and make them an album on snapfish or shutterfly. That shouldn't cost more than $20..

Re: Parent gift question

honestly, I would say no only if you give your parents their gifts when you guys are alone. If you do it at the RD, then I would say you have to get them something since it wouldn't look nice.

I would get them a poster size picture of you guys for their home

Re: Parent gift question

I think you have to get them a gift. Just a simple picture in a nice frame of both of you. I think its better to give them something now than to have to deal with any issues down the road from them.
