parent vent (kinda long)

parent vent (kinda long)

So I booked my photographer last night (George from Right Angle) and FH and I are so excited. So my mother told my father today how much it was and he flipped. Both of them started going off on me about how I should have paid more attention and my mother was reading me articles about a photographer that is 500. So I told them that I'm happy and because I want the digital magazine album that it is more expensive and that the $500 guy prob is by the hour and that wouldn't include albums and by the time you add everything up it will be close to the same price and I like George and his work so much better. They just made me feel really bad for something I was so excited about. I didn't go into blindly, I did my research. He was the one FH and I wanted.

Argh!!!

Thanks for letting me vent

UPDATE:

Thanks ladies!!! You guys are the best!

sorry about that .. its frustrating, I know. Just know you made the right choice and you are going to have beautiful pictures!

Stick with your choice, it is your wedding day and you should be able to book vendors that will meet your needs, even if it means having to spend more $$ on something.

I can totally relate! I understand where you are coming from. Everything I want to incorporate into my wedding day has to through my mom.....not really, but when I tell her I am interested in a vendor, she tells me 'I have a friend in the office who just got married and she used a [insert vendor type here], I will get the info for you.' Then I say 'Mom, I've researched and feel that this vendor will meet my needs', then she says 'I can throw up a website and probably get [insert vendor type here] business'........

I am sorry to rant, but this is my response to your parent vent.

It is very difficult when they are footing most of the bill.

If you and your FH are paying for it then they shouldn't make you feel that way. If you are happy with him and don't mind spending the money then don't worry!

Are you and you FI paying for it or are you parents paying for it?

If you are happy with your choice then there should not be an argument! A $500 dollar photog probably has no idea what he is doing AND on top of that will charge you thru the @ss after the wedding for enlargements, etc.

They probably just dont realize that things have gotten more expensive AND that you get more these days!

Don't let your parents get to you. You and your FH chose right angle for a reason. Trust your instincts and go with whoever you like best.

Yeah, well, I didn't even tell my parents how much the photographer costs!!! I think we are picking up that bill.

Sorry to hear they are giving you hard time.......don't worry!! Your parents are just looking out for you. As long as you and your FH are happy with your decision than don't worry!!

They are giving us a set amount of money for the wedding, the rest we pick up ourselves. So they are kind of paying for it and kind of not. They told me in the beginning that it was what they were giving us and how we used it to pay for things in the wedding was up to us. And then all of a sudden they throw a fit

BTW they knew we were going to book them yesterday, they just decided to bring it up today, after the fact

follow what ur gut is telling you.
sometimes parents can burst ur bubble... mine have done it a sillion times about minor things but i just ignore it and go on along my merry way. U are happy and confident in who u booked and that is all that matters. What could u have gotten for 500 bucks?

Dont worry parents will ALWAYS have something negative to say. I hear it all the time from my mom..just go with what makes you and your FH happy and with what feels right.

I wouldn't sweat it. Seriously. And if they start in again just tell them 'Listen, we made this decision with conscious intent. We are happy with our decision - photography is VERY important to us since it will be the ONLY way we can really look back and see our day. We don't expect your gift to be any bigger or smaller and fully understand that we will be picking up the tab for anything over and above whatever you give us. I know you are concerned and we love you for caring... but please don't make me feel bad about something that I am SO happy about!'

Aww don't worry... everyone always has something to say. If it makes you happy then be confident with your decision! Pictures are one of the few things left after the wedding is over-it's something important to spend money on- and even if it wasn't its YOUR (and FH's ) day!

I've been going through the same sort of thing. It's very frustrating and I know how much it can bring you down! Just try to stay upbeat. We're all going to have our good days and bad days... I just keep trying to tell that to myself anyway!
Plus, if you're confident in your choice, that's all you can do! I booked George, too!

My dad kind of freaked over the cost of our photographer too. But I just explained to him that it was because of the digital photography. In a few years, they probably won't even be offering traditional albums. So I wanted to the new technology. And he accepted that answer, my dad is always into the new technology.

$500 for a photographer? Please, mom and dad! Maybe if you want a 2 hour session with absolutely NO features. At least that's been my experience, and I've browsed at least 30 photographers at this point.

My FH had a similar reaction when I told him my top pick would be around $3000 for a package. He talked me into a lower range...I guess some things we can do ourselves, like scanning and making albums. But photography is important to me, so I don't want too many shortcuts.

Sooo many people may do this to you untl the wedding day, but what ever you and your FH want to do, my father does Nature photography on the side so this was a hard decision for me too!!! I had to report what cameras they will be using , etc!!! It got rediculous!!! Hang in there, its such an emotional time too!!!!

As long as you are happy with the decision, which you seem to be, stick with it! And $500 for a photographer? I've never heard of such a low rate, which would make me nervous, personally.

Re: parent vent (kinda long)

That's just what they do!!!!!!!!
When I 1st started planning me and my mom had a huge fight over the open bar. She kept insisting that we only have an open bar for two hrs. Then when I told her no she was like' Bianca Your selfish you dont even care that your family and friends are going to get drunk and die on their way home' HUH!!!! To make it worse she wasnt chipping in at all, I told her I would talk to FH about it and then she says ' Why do you keep bringing him up? he has nothing to do with any of this, this isnt for him!' HUH

Then she told me not to call her again until the week before the wedding so she would know where to go!!!!!

How dramatic

If that's the photog you and your FH like, then that's the end of it. It's all about what you two crazy kids want
