I would gently bring it up to your parents in private.... remember when you said.... and see where that takes you.

I went through the same thing!! I know this is not what you want to hear, but its the only thing you can do. ASK!!!
Without coming across demanding or anything I simply told them I was trying to come up with a budget and I was wondering if they wanted to contribute. Before they said anything, I said that Im not demanding money, just simply asking. If they couldnt give us any, I understood. But I would appreciate anything that they could give me. We also did that with FI's parents (divorced) One is in a situation where he just cant right now (which was ok) and his mom doesnt really have much, but offered to pay for the rehearsal dinner. Good luck and fill us in on what happens.

I think it really depends on the type of relationship you have with them. If they haven't mentioned it yet, then maybe they just plan on giving you a gift. When I first got engaged, my parent's told us right away what their intentions were.

Maybe they don't plan on contributing towards the wedding since she made a comment about you and FH paying for it??
