As I posted before fh and I booked on Sunday our venue. Well my in laws were so happy and excited. We went to tell my parents and my dad went crazy. He doesn't want us to get married to say the least. He says I'm impulsive meanwhile we have been engaged for a year and a half now. We waited until I finished school, got a job, and bought a house. I don't know what else the man wants?? I'm so sad. Has anyone had this happen? I don't know what to do?

Re: Parents
OMG, I am so sorry that you have to go through this. Maybe just try to see it from your father's perspective as a parent....you are his little girl and many men have a difficult time letting us grow up to become women. You and he should sit down one on one and have a chit chat, let him know that you're happy, you love you're FH and you are making the right decision for you.....Good Luck, these things do have a way of working themselves out

Re: Parents
Sorry you have to deal with this...sometimes its hard for parents, especially dads to let their baby go. I'm sure he'll learn to accept it and become supportive of your wedding.

Thanks ladies. I hope so! I will talk to him maybe next week when things calm down. I just hope my parents come on board and are a part of this exciting important part of my life!

Re: Parents
Why don't you sit down with your dad and explain how you feel and more importantly how he makes you feel? That is so sad!

Re: Parents
Definitely have a talk with your dad. Do your parents have an issue with FH before you got engaged?

Re: Parents
I talked to him yesterday and he was like happy with himself how nasty he was. I said you have to be more sensitive to my feelings. He said I have to be sensitive towards him. He doesn't want me marrying him. My father and I are close and he said we fight only because of George. So I take him out of the picture and we will be fine. Really? Hello he is going to be my husband that is not going to work! George asked my father for his blessing before he proposed! He received it! My dad is traditional and believes a man s suppose to take care of his woman. It was fine when I was a tech and in school but now that I'm s nurse things have changed. I feel bad for my fh because he doesn't want to make a wedge between my family and hes put up with so much crap from them and to have to deal with this now. Sorry I'm unloading!

You absolutely did the right thing is speaking to your father and TRUST ME, as painful as it is right now, your father will come around. From what you've said this really isn't an issue about you or your FH, it really does sound as if your father is struggling to let you grow up. Give him time, give him love. I don't know if it's the right thing to have FH talk to your father again - maybe clear the air with all of you.

I'm going through this but it's with FH & my mom. It sucks b/c you & I are stuck in the middle. Hopefully as the days go by things will get better. My mom isnt the easiest person to get along with and to be honest probably no one will ever be good enough. Hang in there. I feel your pain.

Re: Parents
I think thats the trust. In my father eyes no one will ever be good enough. My fh was there because we were exciting in telling them the news. Funny part I didn't even get the chance to tell them where and when. I'm sure in a few weeks things will be different. My parents fight me with everything I do. Good luck with your mom and fh!

Re: Parents
He gave his blessing - so you every right to go ahead and do what you wanted. He's probably only being difficult now because you've done everything (job, school, house, etc) that he wanted you to accomplish before so there's nothing stopping you now. You have your date and venue, just wait for him to come around and carry on. Good luck

Re: Parents
My sister thinks its because I didn't include my parents in the process. But I have tried over and over again and they always brushed me off. FH and I are paying for it and tired of trying to please everyone so we did what we wanted. They can definitely be a part of it if they choose too!

Sorry to hear about this
Hope the situation improves soon, so you don't have to go through all this stress.

Re: Parents
Thanks. Getting married is stressful enough and adding parent issues makes a joyful experience stressful. We'll see if they come around. They still don't even know where and when! Nor have they asked!
