Why not get your parents and FILs together as often as possible to see if friendships develop? It might just take some time.
Good luck!

Have the met each other yet? Did something happen?

We had our parents meet before the wedding...and I was so nervous, but everything turned out fine and they got along well. Try to set something up for an informal meeting...maybe a dinner out with just the 6 of you or something.

my parents do not appreciate that my FIL's are letting them help and do all the planning and they are just going to show up at the wedding- they refused to help with our engagement party, and then...they pulled a NO SHOW! so I can agree with t=my parents on this-it does suck though!

Re: Parents and fil

my parents dont like me FILs because my FILs do not know me (I have been with my FH for 4.5 years and been over their house MANY times but they have always refused to get to know me) and my FMIL told my FH that the only person she cares about is him......
there are many stores but if my parents said they liked my FILs I would have to talk with them.

My parents and his parents have never met. They'll meet the day before the wedding for the first time. Then my parents leave the morning after the wedding EARLY morning.

Im trying not to think about that moment.

Well, I know they will never be best of friends, but they will be civil to each other, although I know if FMIL doesn't 'behave' my dad will go ballistic..so I feel your pain

Ugh! My rents and FMIL are also in opposite worlds...I fear my wedding will be like 'My big Fat Greek Wedding', except all the crazy people are on his side. My parents hate my FMIL but try to be civil. My FH nor my FMIL know that my parents dislike her. (FMIL is single Mom). She is loud and obnoxious and always has to get attention and have it her way. I might shoot myself in the head once the planning begins... If they don't like each other so be it, don't force a friendship. I know it sucks...I always imagined a ski vacation with both sides of the family having a great time by the fire...it's hard to come to terms that it will never be a reality.

My parents love my FH, but don't care for his parents. They are annoyed that his parents didn't even discuss 'who's paying for what.' My parents can't really afford to give me this dream wedding, and yet they are working really hard to make sure I get it. And since his parents are barely contributing (even though they have more money), my parents are annoyed about that.

They've only met twice. I don't care if they become friends. I would prefer it if they never had to meet again, but I know they will run into eachother at functions.

The only thing that bothers me is that his family is very gossipy, and I wouldn't want them saying anything about my parents.

Oh well, they're adults. Or at least I hope they act like it.

MY FH does not have any parents, and my parents are divorced and they are not friendly. It really is a bit stressful, but it is my day and I am not going to let it bother me.

My parents and my FH's parents won't meet until the RD (if then).

I am dreading the moment. My FIL's are old enough to be the parents of MY parents (FH was a late baby) so I really don't know how well this is going to go.

(sigh)

I can totally relate to this. My parents are paying for everything, not once did my fiance's parents offer. When my fiance' asked, they were like - we will get back to you. They are very traditional with the whole thing. Their guest list is the longest too. My sister asked for help with the cost of the shower and FMIL refused - saying she didn't help plan it. ARGH! Good thing I really LOVE my future hubby!

I bet they don't even THANK my parents for any of it.

Now that there daughter is getting married things are totally different. Believe you & me they aren't refusing any money from the groom's family in that case.

Re: Parents and fil

well mine haven't spoken since december
we have had some problems w/ them since about that time...i am getting used to it now - they will be civil to one another at the wedding and that's it...
they hurt me very deeply and insulted my parents at the same time, so i go forward b/c they are my fh's parents - i have to go on or else i will not have the wedding i want...
